Summary: Frank tries to work up the courage to ask y/n out all day, but just can't find it in him. Of course, that doesn't mean he ever stopped trying.

A/N: this is a gender neutral reader (told you I would) and, yeah, enjoy!

Warnings: swearing (warning 2: this warning will probably be on every fic 😂)

I'm chilling on a sofa, with my laptop on my lap, watching a series with my headphones plugged into it. I'm at the Paris Opera Ballet School - my home.

The headphones on my head is my way of saying 'fuck off' to anyone who comes by attempting to talk to me.

I have my friends, but that doesn't mean I always want to be social - do you know how hard it is to speak like a regular human being, and not insult them or use a sarcastic comment? Because I do.

Although, however happy I was ignoring people, Frank came by, and if he's in the school, he's probably here for time travel business, which means I actually have to cooperate.

It's not that bad though, I like Frank. He's smart and nice, and he's good at random philosophical conversations (we once talked for an hour about the multiverse theory). We probably won't have time for that though, if there's trouble. Plus... he's cute, let's be honest, it's just a known fact.

"Hey y/n!" Frank came over to say.

"Hey Frankie, what brings you here?" Unbeknownst to me, Frank's heart fluttered, and cheeks reddened as you called him 'Frankie'. Again.

I always do, unless I'm being serious, and every time, he blushes. I'm always clueless.

"Oh, y'know, just came to see how everything is going in the world of ballet."

"No.... umm... time travel business?" I asked, whispering about the secret.

"Nope! Which is exactly why I'm bored out of mind." Frank stated with a smile at me. I chuckled, and patted a spot next to me, where he then sat.

"Well, the world of ballet is doing just fine, thank you. Armando even said we'll being doing a musical next, he won't say which one though. It's funny - we study ballet, not musical arts. Either way, I'm a theatre geek, so I'm looking forward to it." I spoke lightly, it was nice to have someone to talk to, who was genuinely interested. Frank always gives me all a of his attention when I'm speaking to him. It's nice.

I turned off my laptop, and we talked for a while. Frankie was so easy to talk to. Some said the complete opposite about him; some said he's unsocial, like me, or just ignores them, or simply shuts down the conversation. It's all true, I've seen this happen on multiple occasions, but never with me. I think it's because we have similar minds.

I know one of the reasons Frank doesn't engage in deep conversations, is because he's intelligent - he has thoughts, theories, information, or just stuff on his mind, which he gets really excited about, and wants someone to talk to about, and often, people don't understand or aren't interested. I like mine and Frank's conversations, we get each other, and we're always interested by what's on the others mind. We could talk on end for hours.

The only sad thing, is that we don't get to have those conversations often. Frank only usually comes here when there's a serious problem, or just to see someone else. I'm not really that important.

I'm just sort of in the background with the time travel stuff. I suppose Frank only really approaches me when the others aren't around.

"Hey, so I was, uh, wondering," Frank starts to say to me, "if, umm, I d'know, you'd like to go the the, um, the, what's the word in looking for? The, uh, cinema! Right, that's it. How could I forget that word, it's simple?..." Frank starts to ramble, but I got the message in the end.

"Sure, what film r'we seeing?"

Frank suddenly had a panicked look, and in a split second said, "Well! It depends on what the others think, y'know, 'cos I was about to ask them too.. obviously, of course, so... umm, yeah, I should probably go and do that." With that, Frank bolted, most likely to go find the others.

I had a look on my face that was my way of saying 'what the hell just happened?', but it was gone in a second and I slipped my headphones back on, waiting for Frank to gather the others.

Ines and Lena were alone in their dorm, y/n having gone somewhere. They were chatting about stuff when they heard an urgent knock on the door.

Ines got up to open it, assuming it was y/n who forgot her key again. Instead she found Frank at the door.

"Frank? What are you going here?" Ines asked confused and Lena looked over with the same expression.

"I need your help, right now."

"Ok, what's wrong?" Lena asked.

"So, uh!" Frank started nervously "I may have asked y/n out then did a stupid thing like chicken out and say you guys are coming too. I... uh, may have done that."

Lena and Ines just looked at him, then laughed. And I mean, the utterly hysterical and uncontrollable kind of laughter.

Frank looked with a scowl. "Stop laughing and help me!"

Calming down, the two agreed to come to the cinema, but told him they wouldn't next time he bailed; he needs to get it together and just ask her out.

They'd known about his crush on her for ages - it was a miracle y/n herself didn't know, he was a complete idiot around her.
-
Coming out of the cinema, the group and I agreed that the film was pretty good, and talked about it the entire way out. Unknown to me, Lena and Ines had made sure that Frank sat next to me, but he didn't dare make a move.

On the way back, Frank turned to me, and asked if I wanted to go for a drink at a nearby cafe.

"Sure, sounds fun, I could do with a drink. What about you guys?" I turned and asked.

Behind me, Frank was shaking his head at the other two, but they didn't see. Frank was pissed; there was only a slim chance he'd have the courage to ask her out again, but said nothing and the four of them went to the cafe.

Back at the school, everyone was happy after a fun and busy day. Frank, however, felt defeated.

Today wasn't the first day he had attempted to ask y/n out and every time she didn't acknowledge it.

Lena and Ines were chatting somewhere, but y/n just laid back on a sofa and smiled, with Frank a little space next to her.

Y/n looked back at the day and realised that Frank had put it all together; funny, he didn't really talk to Lena or Ines though. And just like that, it hit her.

"Hey Frankie?"

"Hmm?"

"Was today meant to be a date?" At that, Frank looked over, face red, and sputtered out comments of denial. Y/n only smiled, and chuckled lightly.

"Oh, well that's a shame." She says, smirking, knowing what she's doing.

"It is?" He asked slowly.

"Yeah, 'cos y'know, if it was meant to be a date, then we'd have to have a do over seeing as we had extra company today."

"A do over?" Frank asked, getting a bit excited, but trying hard not to show it or get his hopes up.

"How 'bout we go to that cafe again tomorrow? Y'know, just the two of us." She smiled brightly at him - that smile that could light up a room, which he loved so much about her.

Frank smiled widely , completely accepting the offer, and making it known how long he'd waited for it.

A/N: so the ending kind of sucks, but it's late, so cut me some slack. If you want me to rewrite it tho, I'd be happy to, just let me know. I'd love for you to comment on my work, good, bad or otherwise, I just want some feedback, so please keep that in mind, and feel free to request.
Have a great day/night,
