"I'll come for lunch one day, when you guys aren't too busy. I'll plan it for when Lando's in."
"Dan as well," Carson said, with a smile. "Dad loves the guy. We already knew that, but I mean Dad really loves Daniel."
--
"Alright boys, she's on!" Lando exclaimed on the mic as I joined his lobby. I could see my username, Lando's, one I recognized as Rory, and two others I hadn't seen. Possibly friends of Lando's.
"Evening, boys," I greeted the bunch.
"Alexa, been a minute."
"No way - George!" I exclaimed, hearing George Russell's distinct accent come through as Lando and Rory chuckled in the background.
"How'd you figure it was me?" he questioned.
"I'd recognize that voice anywhere, good to hear you! How's everything?" I said excitedly. George and I drove against each-other in F2, though his charismatic nature made him hard not to love. Once I left the sport, I had lost touch with him almost entirely, as I had with Lando. There was one time, when Rory and I first started the business, he had contacted me to buy a Mercedes I had in stock. He didn't end up purchasing it from me, but it was a warm encounter regardless.
"Likewise," he agreed. "All is good with me! Hope you're well." So that left one mystery gamer.
"Could you recognize my voice anywhere?"
"Daniel?" I questioned. I had no clue he played video games, let alone even owned any type of console or gaming setup.
"We convinced grandpa to play a couple rounds!" Lando exclaimed.
"You kids have to go easy on me, alright? I hardly ever play this shit," Daniel feigned a serious tone on his end of the mic.
"Danny just give it your all, buddy. Point and shoot," Rory coo'd.
"Alexa, how versed in Warzone are you?" George asked as we were loading into a round.
"Again, not very. I've played previous, more elite COD titles; but haven't had all the time in the world to sit on my ass and game like some of us," I said, alluding to Lando, George, and Rory.
"Is she talking about me?" George questioned.
"Ooh," Rory responded, I could hear the smile in his voice. "I think she is."
"With that setup you had in Monaco, I think you're lying," Lando said.
"I'm just happy I've got someone on my side," Daniel said, relieved.
"Oh, no I'm definitely better than you," I clarified, a smug grin plastered on my face despite him not being able to see me.
"Yeah? What makes you so sure, October?" he challenged.
"Let me show you," I ended the conversation. "Enough chatting, lets drop in."
Rory, Daniel, George, and I played quads as we dropped into the plunder map. Lando, arguably the best of us all, decided on playing solo for this round alongside us. We would switch around as the evening went on, depending on how the night went. Rory and George moved in while Daniel was supposed to be assisting me in keeping an eye out for other teams. I was no expert in the game, however I knew enough to know what to look out for. Daniel seemed to enjoy himself at the beginning by driving around in the various vehicles the game offered, however his inability to help only really hindered his experience in the game, which worked fine with us. As long as he stayed out of our way.
