How she wished, mind racing, eyeing him closely. "When? I don't know if I can get time off work. Really, Saleem, with no notice, you impossible man!"
"And here I thought we were dating."
"Saleem, you're nothing but a troublemaker," she scolded, though didn't move out of his arms. Big, strong male arms that were like barriers of steel, yet so gentle, reassuring, and safe. She always felt safe around him. Another thing was he wasn't pompous, can be very naughty, getting her into trouble, she noticed, yet was so easygoing around other people from all walks of life.
"What do I have to do to make you agree to come with me? I do have the means to look after you."
She shook her head. "It has nothing to do with the money and I don't want you to pay for me in any form."
"Ah, but you would be my guest. I would see to all your needs, personally." His hands spread across her back, gathering her closer to his masculine frame. She tingled all over as warmth washed through in awareness. "Just say yes and I would see to the rest." She chewed on her bottom lip. "Please," he begged. "I need you, Heather."
She blinked up at him. "Let me see if I can get away. When do you leave?"
"Monday."
"This Monday," she squawked. "How am I supposed to arrange to get away in one day?" She placed her hands on his chest, looking up at him. "Not possible, it can't be done."
"Haven't you learnt yet, can't isn't in my vocabulary?"
"Let me guess, you're used to getting your way. I am sorry Saleem, but sometimes you can't." Sadness entered her eyes. He brought up a hand and caressed her cheek with the back of it. "It's just not possible."
Releasing her, he brushed soft hair from her side's face. "Otherwise you would have come?" She nodded. He smiled, dipping his dark head, and brushed her lips softly. "Say it, Heather, I want to hear the words on your lips."
"Yes, if it wasn't for work or the wedding, life and all, then I would have gone with you." He lifted his head slowly, eyes narrowing. Not quite what he wanted to hear by the look of things. "Okay, okay," she laughed. "I would, satisfied?"
"Yes," he grinned that dazzling smile that made him so famous, then kissed her again, longer, deeper, bringing forth a sound of pleasure, only to pull away at the sharp ringing of a phone. Cursing softly, Saleem eased out of the sofa and went to answer, as did her phone and went to retrieve her handbag and removed her phone, answering.
"Where are you?" she was greeted with. Moaning, she covered her face with a hand. Rehearsals had completely slipped her mind. Thankfully, where they were getting married wasn't that far away from here.
"Sorry, slipped my mind, on my way." Shutting down the phone, she spun around, as Saleem entered, serious. She charged cross to be taken into his arms.
"I have to leave," she whispered against his lips. "We are having a gathering of the bridal party," she stepped back, searching. "I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you wanted to come." He frowned thoughtfully. "You don't have to if you don't want to," she added quickly.
He brushed soft hair back from her face again. "It's not that I don't want to, but I have another commitment. Tell me where and I'd see if I can make it later."
"There is no need," she stated, easing back, closing down. "Of course, you have other things to do. You're a busy man. I'd see myself out," she turned to leave when he caught her wrist and swung her back into his arms.
"Not so fast, my love, time and place," he reinforced.
Sighing, she gave in. "But don't force yourself. It's all about the wedding, and going through the moves."
