A few days had passed since the angels had attacked and nothing had happened since. The snow had since stopped falling but the chilling cold stayed present, causing the snow already on the ground froze over, proven to be hard to shovel out in any way. The firewood had slowly dwindled down, probably only lasting us a few more days until it completely ran out. With how cold it's been, it seems that the wood will run out sooner rather than later.
"[y/n], I really don't think you going out there is the safest option." Gabriel said, sitting on the couch I saw the worry written all over his face. Giving a small smile at him, I wrapped my scarf tightly around my neck.
"I'll be fine, Gabriel. It's only a couple of feet from the house."
"You even said yourself that it's way too icy."
"Well I have snow boots, so I won't fall."
"Yeah you say that now." He gave a small eye roll and sat back against the couch cushions.
"Listen, when I get back I'll make us some hot chocolate okay?" He seemed to perk up at that and nodded.
"Fine. But if you fall out there, I ain't coming to get you."
"I hope not, I don't want my savior to be hobbling on one foot." Chuckling softly I put on my snow boots and headed out the door.
"Hey it's getting better!" He yelled out after I closed the door.
Sighing I braced myself against the cold, crossing my arms over my chest to keep the warmth in. Making slow steps on the pathway I made days ago, now covered in ice, to the small shed along the tree-line. Every step I slid just a tiny bit, but it wasn't anything dramatic like those videos of people absolutely eating shit on the ice. Chuckling to myself I thought of Gabriel actually being worried about me, if anything he should be more worried about himself and his health. It's just ice anyways, it's not frozen water can actually hurt someone. Nearing the small shed I hurried my steps, wanting be out of the cold already.
Opening the door I went inside and grabbed a handful of firewood from the large pile in the back. Making a mental note to get more from the farm down the road after the snow cleared up completely. Closing the door behind me I slowly made my way back to the house. Balancing firewood and walking on ice was no easy feat. Between not being able to see over the wood and my feet slipping against the icy stone. Pausing at the steps I sighed softly and went to step on the first step, but I missed it by an inch. Letting out a startled scream as I came crashing down onto the steps, wood going everywhere over the front porch.
"Fuck." Pain clouded my vision for a moment, the searing hot of it taking home in my lower back where the steps dug in painfully.
"[y/n]! Are you alright?" Gabriel called out from inside. Groaning in slight pain I closed my eyes.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I slipped on some ice." There was a slight pause. "Don't you dare say I told you so!"
"I wasn't!" Another pause. "Do you want help?"
"No, I think I can get it." Sitting up, wincing, I stood up fully and grabbed the discarded firewood and went back inside. Sighing I leaned against the door.
"Are you okay?" Gabriel asked from the couch, looking at me in worry. Nodding I took off my snow boots and put the firewood next to the fireplace. "Are you sure?"
"Gabriel I'm fine, I just slipped on the steps that's all." Taking off the many layers I had on I went to the kitchen to grab an ice pack. Before I could cross into the kitchen, Gabriel grabbed my hand and looked up at me.
"I don't want you going back out there." I gave him a confused look.
"What are you talking about? I only slipped, and we need firewood to stay warm."
"But you still got hurt." His voice was laced with concern, his eyes brimmed with worry. "I don't want you getting hurt again, sugar."
"You're only worried because I wouldn't be able to take care of you." Chuckling softly I tried pulling my hand away but he kept a firm grip.
"I mean it, please sweetheart." Looking down at him with curiosity I nodded slowly, not knowing where all this worry came from.
"Yeah..sure thing Gabriel." He sighed in relief and released my hand.
I went into the kitchen and grabbed the ice pack. Putting a pot on the stove I poured in some milf for the hot chocolate for Gabriel and me. As I waited for it to heat up I got the mugs ready, a teal one for Gabriel and a dark green one for me. After pouring the hot chocolate mixture into the mugs I watched the pot of milk heat up, making sure it wouldn't overflow. When the milk heated up I poured it into the mugs, mixing the drink and adding the most important parts; mini marshmallows, whipped cream and shredded cocoa on top. Humming to myself I grabbed the mugs and carefully walked back to the living room and handed the teal mug to Gabriel.
"Here ya go." Smiling he took the mug in both hands.
"Thank you sugar, you know how to butter up a guy after giving him a heart attack." Rolling my eyes I sat down on the couch next to him.
"Listen I'm fine, nothing a little ice pack won't fix."
"You're using ice to heal after you just slipped on it?" He raises an eyebrow while taking a sip of his drink. Laughing softly I shook my head.
"Hey I don't make the rules, I just follow them." I took my own sip and hummed to myself in content.
"You got a little something on ya, sweetheart." Gabriel reached over and swiped his thumb across my upper lip, wiping away the whip cream that accumulated there. Looking at him I felt heat rise to my cheese as he stuck his thumb in his mouth, licking away the whipped cream. He flashed a smirk at me. "You wear your food well, sugar." He sipped his drink again, his eyes never leaving mine.
"Shut up." I said softly, bringing the mug back up to my lips and taking another sip.
"You love it." He grinned and winked at me as he relaxed back onto the couch. Rolling my eyes I placed the mug down on the side table before laying the ice pack against my lower back, leaning back into the couch. Sighing softly I grabbed my mug again, settling into the comfort of the couch.A few hours had passed and it was nearing dark, Gabriel and I still sat on the couch talking over a movie playing on the tv.
"Oh that is so unrealistic." I scoffed at the ridiculous scene playing, " you can't rip out someone's tongue like that! It doesn't work like that." Shaking my head I heard Gabriel snort in laughter next to me.
"Movie logic, sweet pea, ain't nothing like the real world."
"I know that, but it wouldn't hurt to look up a fact." He gave a slight nudge at my shoulder and chuckled.
"They ain't that smart." Huffing out a laugh I leaned forward in my seat, watching the tv with piqued interest as the killer was confronted by the protagonist.
"You really got a knack for horror don't you?" Gabriel asked curiously, settling onto his side, leaning his body more towards me. I spared him a glance and smiled a bit.
"Always have, the blood and gore never bothered me much and sometimes the killer has a point to everything he does." He raised an eyebrow and tilted his head to the side a bit.
"You're sympathetic of the killers?"
"I didn't say that, but sometimes their motives aren't entirely immoral."
"Alright then, name one villain who killed for a purpose."
"Carrie White, can't blame the girl." He paused for a moment and then chuckled, shaking his head a bit.
"Her body count is through the roof."
"Those assholes deserved it." I shrugged and looked at him. "You're telling you wouldn't do the same thing if you had her powers and her life?" His eyes hardened for a moment before they went back to their normal mischievous glint.
"Of course I would, can't say I haven't done that."
"You've killed people before? I thought angels were supposed to be peaceful?" He laughed dryly at that and gave me a look.
"Need I remind you of those assholes that came here a few days ago and tried to kill us?" I paused at his words before sighing.
"You know what I mean, I wouldn't expect you to kill someone without reason.
"Oh I had my reasons, sweetheart. Those dick bags deserved it." His eyes flashed of anger, his lips thinning into a line. There was a hefty silence followed after that as we finished the movie.Laying in bed that night I stayed awake for longer than I hoped for. The events of the day running through my head. Gabriel was acting weird today. With his concern of me falling outside to all the pet names he was throwing at me. And especially the whip cream incident. Heat rose to my cheeks just thinking about it, my fingers reaching up to brush my top lip where Gabriel had swiped his thumb before. Scenarios ran through my head of the different ways he could've done that differently, the heat becoming more insistent, reaching my ears. Taking a deep breath I tried to calm my head of those thoughts. I can't be thinking of him like that, he'll be leaving soon, I can't get attached. Besides I barely know him. 'But you've gotten to know each other more the past few days.' A thought passed through your head. Shaking my head I rolled over and tucked my arm underneath my pillow. Closing my eyes I hoped a good nights sleep is all I needed to clear my mind of something I knew could never happen.
