After lunch I was able to help Gabriel get dressed and cleaned up. When the angels attacked they left a few marks on him, nothing a little rubbing alcohol and bandaids couldn't fix. As we sat there on the couch, listening to the wind howl outside, I cleaned up his face, patting away at the small cuts on his cheek with an alcohol pad. He grimaced every time I swiped over the open cut.
"I know it stings, I'll be done in a minute." Smiling sympathetically at him. He gave a weak smile in return and let me continue dabbing away at his cuts. I put the bandaids over the cuts, smoothing out the edges to lay flat on his cheek. Smiling at my handiwork I got up and threw out the trash, taking our plates into the kitchen whilst doing so.
Coming back into the living area I sat back next to him on the couch. Giving out a small sigh I put on the tv that hung above the fireplace. The news was playing, showcasing the worst blizzard we've seen in a decade. I gave a small huff at that, blizzard doesn't do it justice. It's almost apocalyptic at how cold it's been with all the snow pilling high.
"So, Gabriel, I don't know much about the Bible or anything like that but I'm assuming you're the archangel? Right?" He gave a slow nod and smiled some.
"The one and only."
"With what they were saying, about you commuting treason. What did you do that was so bad?" He gave a dry chuckle.
"That's a hard one. Did a lot of things to get me on heavens shit list."
"We'll we have all the time in the world, humor me with at least one thing." He gave a sigh and adjusted himself on the couch to face me.
"Well for starters, I left heaven a long time ago when my brothers started fighting-"
"Michael and Lucifer?"
"Bingo. So I ditched, carved myself my own slice of life down here. Heaven didn't take kindly to that. Guess you could say that's one of the biggest reasons they're after me." I nodded and pulled my legs up onto the couch and crossed them together.
"So you're the only angel they're looking for?"
"That I'm aware of. I lost my grace, essentially what makes an angel, well an angel. And I haven't been able to tap into any conversations they have."
"You can do that? Listen to their conversations?" I asked intrigued.
"Used to, buttercup. Not anymore. Until I can get my grace back."
"And how do you do that?"
"No idea." He laughed dryly. "I'm sure my bro can help me out, when he gets here."
"Is that the person you called a few days ago?" He gave a nod.
"Yep. Him and his bozzo friends should be here in a week, or two."
"I hope the roads clear up by then, if not then there's no chance of them getting here."
"Oh I'm sure they'll find a way to get here." Gabriel gave a small chuckle. There was a few moments of silence, I looked out the window watching how the snow fell into large chunks that clumped onto the already snow ridden ground. Glancing back at Gabriel he was staring into the fireplace, a solemn expression on his face.
"Gabriel?" I asked, his face changed into a small smile, his eyes holding kindness.
"Yeah sugar?"
"I know I can't do much, but I'm gonna do whatever I can to get you home and your grace back." Gabriel looked a bit taken back but that smile slowly came back.
"Thank you."Some hours passed and it was nearing nighttime. Gabriel and I were still on the couch, a rerun of Bones playing on the tv. I wasn't really paying attention to the screen, my mind off somewhere else. The events of the day kept on replay in my head, altering every now and then as different outcomes popped up at random. Gabriel made a noise of discomfort and that brought me out of my head. Looking towards him I was about to ask what was wrong when I saw he was trying to stand from the couch. Immediately getting up from my place I went over to him, putting my hands over his arms to help him up slowly.
"Easy there, Gabriel, you don't want to over exert yourself." He gave a small roll of his eyes.
"I can walk by myself fine now." Shaking my head some and giving a small chuckle.
"Alright then, so if I let go you'll be fine to get back to your room?" There was a moment of silence and then a sigh from Gabriel.
"No."
"That's what I thought." Getting a good grip on him I helped him walk back to his room. He was getting better, slowly but surely. He wasn't hunching over as much anymore, he didn't have to stop as often either. There was still a few problems, like his arm being useless and the limp he had with his leg.Making it to the room I got him onto the bed. He laid back against the pillows and sighed, closing his eyes briefly.
"Do you need anything else before I go?" He gave a small shake of his head. Giving a small smile I looked him over before leaving. From eating dinner earlier he still had some leftover bits of food hanging in his beard hair. Reaching over I brushed my hand over his chin, dusting away from the crumbs. His eyes opened and looked at me with something I can't describe.
"..sorry." I went to pull my hand away, gasping softly when he grabbed my hand and kept looking at me. "Gabriel?" I spoke softly. Heat rose to my cheeks when I felt his thumb lightly run along my knuckles. And just as quickly as this all happened, he dropped my hand. I looked at him in slight shock and made my way out of the room.
"Goodnight Gabriel." I said as I closed the door.
"Night, sugar." I heard him say before the door fully closed. Giving a small sigh I made my way upstairs to my room.Gabriel's p.o.v
Laying back against the pillows I gave an agitated sigh and ran my hand over my face roughly. Dammit. I can't get attached, not in this state, not like this. Opening my eyes I looked out into the dark room, the only light streaming in from the window from the moon. Cas better get here soon, I can't risk this human getting hurt because of me.
"Cas, if you can hear me you have to get me out of here. Please." He waited a few minutes and nothing happened. Giving another sigh I turned myself over in bed.
"Gabriel?" Sitting up fast in the bed, I looked around.
"Cas? Where are you?"
"I'm not there, I can't reach your location." Looking around confused I made a questioning face.
"Why the hell not?"
"Did you put up warding?"
"No, I can barely move on my own as it is." Sighing I rubbed my eyes with slight irritation, "did the jolly green giant find my location?"
"Yes, Sam did. It's going to be a while before we can get there. The storm is bad, Dean wouldn't be able to drive."
"Why does he need to drive? Just zap yourself over here."
"I can't-"
"And why not?"
"Gabriel," Cas gave a huff of annoyance. "My grace is not where it used to be, besides Sam believes it would be better if we drove as to not raise suspicions." Clenching my jaw I rolled my eyes.
"Fine. Get here as fast you can, we already had a run in with the god squad."
"What? Did you get hurt?" He sounded concerned, odd.
"Nah, the girl I'm with took care of them."
"Alright. We'll try to get there as soon as we can."
"Yeah, yeah. Just hurry up, Cassy." Relaxing against the bed I have another sigh and closed my eyes, trying to find the energy to will myself to sleep. 'This can only end badly' I thought to myself as sleep slowly came over me.
