Vanguard: Awakening

Author's notes! (Updated 7-6-24)

Thought I was gone forever did you? Muahahaha, I have returned!

Seriously though, I sincerely apologize. Real life got ahold of me, especially after I got deployed to Poland little over a year ago. That deployment was extended because it was during it that the Russia-Ukraine crisis began.

My contract will be ending soon, and I'd love to get back to writing again.

Thing is, this story is near and dear to my heart and its current presentation can be greatly improved. So I am re-writing.

When complete, there will be a prologue and 10 chapters, with plans to create chapters in advance and update weekly - similar to Webtoons. Reading hundreds of stories on webtoons has reminded me that these stories are entertaining for lots of people, and it's not a pointless endeavor. So, I hope dear readers, that you stay tuned and see just how different Cedric's experience is going to be!

[Update] 2-26-24

2-24-23 was when this notice was published. It's been a whole year! Well, during that time I've be restabilizing myself to civilian life after earning my honorable discharge for four years of service as a combat medical specialist in the US Army. It's one of my proudest achievements!

I never stopped thinking about Vanguard, and how I wanted to write the story. After familiarizing myself and getting into a stable situation, I was able to start working on it again. It's the same universe, but a lot more fleshed out with detail and answers to questions you may or may not have had in the previous two versions. This one though, this one is here to stay. I'm finally satisfied with the result, and the direction it's going.

The original intention was to release the prologue and the first arc - Awakening, which would revolve around Cedric waking up in his new world and learning about the difference between it, and the one he was used to. I released the prologue early, hoping to give you wonderful readers a taste of what was to come. After that, the first arc would be ten chapters and released all at once.

After all was said and done, it actually turned into eight chapters. Further events in the arc didn't really need to be told, as it reached its natural conclusion.

Going forward, each chapter will be about 4,000 to 6,000 words on average and released every Wednesday. I still write this on my phone most often, so expect typos. I wanted to get it out as soon as possible. I'll be going over the first drafts of Awakening and making adjustments where needed, followed by a proofreading before publishing on my computer.

Until then, if you're still following Vanguard - I can't think you enough for your patience and I look forward to seeing your responses! A link to my discord will be posted here in time as well, so that you can interact with our community if you wish. [Update] 6-9-24

Some things have cropped up over the past several months ths that have taken their toll, mostly on my emotional and mental health - which in turn, also affects time.

While challenging, I have one again forded through the treacherous rapids that is everyday life. I will say, it took far longer than I'd like to adjust, but at least I'm adjusted now. With stabilization once again making itself present, I can finally get back to working on Vanguard. I will not offer a release date, outside of to expect the first five chapters on a Wednesday sometime between this month, and the next couple of months. Upon first release, new chapters will be released every week on Wednesday. Thank you to those solemn few who have supported me patiently and expectantly.

It's finally time! The entireth of the introduction arc, Awakening, will be released at approximately 8-9am CST, so I hope you all enjoy!

While writing a few more chapters and conducting more research, I discovered that the genuses mentioned that respectfully identify the various species of Korellei (or, plainly, furries!) Are incorrect, and I've been mixing them up with orders, families, and species. So as of today, I will be updating all chapters to accurately represent the proper scientific nomenclature for the animals, using families instead of genus - there are so many genus of animals, that it can get real confusing real quick - so now the renames will be more broad such as dogs and foxes being canidae, cats being felidae, deer being cervidae, bears being ursidae, and so on and so forth. The published chapters up to this point won't have accurate publish dates, but you can infer from the fact that chapters are released weekly - with Awakening being published on 6-19-24
