After that night out with most of the team things after weren't too significant, we'd battle the other team every Saturday and no other questions would be asked. The REDs we fought never had the same set up, there was always someone replaced by something new. They were quite inconsistent, they're cyborg WING had mysteriously disappeared over night along with those three mercenaries. They were left with only supporting classes now, engineers, medics, spies, snipers. Sure they were good at what they did but I never really saw any connection between them like I had with my team. We all worked together, but they all worked on their own.It was until thanksgiving that things got interesting again, Tik had made us a very large amount of food in the kitchen. We had a feast, almost everyone there ate all the food he made, even JET who I hadn't known could even eat normal food like us. We all laughed and told stories, we didn't talk much about work mostly just about each other. Turns out JET's been here alot longer than I thought, a total of 20 years of service for the BLU team and this was only the 7th base he'd transfer to. Nick had also been in the job for a while along with Orson.
Seeing as Nick and Orson had been in the job for a while I decided to ask them about RED. Orson had said he knew about those three mercenaries, turns out they weren't actually working for RED which explained a lot. Nick told me more of RED's lack of communication and teamwork, that they relied on brute force to achieve their goals unlike us. I wondered if that was really true, if they didn't care for each other similar to us. I was about to become deep in thought when suddenly the doors flew open and Alice ran in with some news.
"Everybody! Come take a look at this!"
She exclaimed as she put down a map onto the table showing off a map of the badlands, it seemed most of it was covered in BLU territory. Seemed we really were making a difference. Sarah looked at the map and put her hand on her chin.
"I reckon.. if this progress keeps up we'll be in full control by the end of this month."
Sarah said as Richard put his arm around her. Most of the team seemed quite happy, Orson especially. Though I began to wonder, if we had taken control of this entire area then what would happen next? Sure it was good that we could end the war but.. wouldn't that mean we'd all have to find new jobs? I had grown to like this place not from its battles but from its connections that I've formed with my teammates. I didn't want that connection to break, I didn't want to feel that same loss again.
I left the kitchen and began walking down one of the corridors, I started to think to myself. Is this really the end? Am I going to have to move back to the city again? What am I going to do? I continued walking until I finally found myself at the front doors of the base where it had all began. I stepped outside into the cold afternoon, the ground crinkled with leaves. The leaves were not orange or yellow or brown as they fell, they were instead RED.
The predictions of us taking control within a month had been correct, we ceased almost the entire area of the northern badlands. We were eventually left with battle less weeks, months. Until eventually our entire team was told to relocate, they were taking us further down badlands deeper into RED territory which meant things were going to get a lot more challenging. They would be giving us a month off for us to gather ourselves and get down there. With this time I decided I wanted to pay a visit to some family, in fact I would probably need them to get that far down badlands anyways. So that's what I did, that was the end of my story here, I could at least consider it a happy ending though I wasn't sure the same would follow else where. I didn't care at the time, as long as I had my team with me nothing bad could happen.
