+Yellow of the Sun-Nao++THIRD+
"So this is from the perspective of old Rose telling her and Jack's story, right?"
"Right."
"And before we start, she doesn't want to be engaged to the rich guy?"
"No. She doesn't love him. Her parents just want her to marry him because he's rich like they are and he can 'take care of her'. I don't think that love was actually about love for people like them. It was like a... a business transaction."
Namjoon hums as he watches.
"No more questions. Watch the movie."
He actually pays attention this time. Annoyingly, he starts to understand why Malia cries every time she watches it.
It's a very nice film.
With their backs against the wall as they sit on the bed, they enjoy the movie.
A part of this scenario feels like a fever dream to her. She would've never expected college to look like this for her. Especially not with Namjoon.
But here he is, watching her favorite movie with her and making useful commentary on it.
His hand is in the bowl of popcorn, taking a mouthful as the movie gets closer to its end.
"Yooo. Oh my god. This is kinda sad."
He says it out of nowhere as Jack makes Rose promise him that she'll 'live long and have lots of babies'.
Malia laughs at him as his eyes water. "I told you. You make fun of me for it. Now look at you. Finna cry."
"Girl, leave me alone." He grabs the remote and turns the movie off.
"Hey!" Malia says as she laughs. Namjoon sniffles as he goes to comedy movies and shows. "You just gonna skip the end like that?"
"Yeah. I cried enough."
"You didn't even drop a tear. Your eyes just watered."
"Exactly. That was enough."
Malia smacks her teeth and he laughs. There's a comfortable quiet after that.
Namjoon hates the quiet. His thoughts run too ramped and his anxiety often gets the better of him. It makes it even worse that he's in the presence of Malia as it happens. All of his silent thoughts surround her.
"...I really didn't mean to stand you up that night."
Malia inhales as he finishes speaking, processing just what he's talking about. She doesn't even understand how you 'don't mean' that seems completely intentional.
It's not like he stood her up on accident. Actions like that have to be active choices.
"I'm sure you didn't." She exhales as she sits up.
"No, Malia, I'm serious."
"As a heart attack, huh?" She stands from the bed and fixes his blankets.
"Will you listen to me, please?"
"For what? We already know what happened? You stood me up for your girlfriend. End of story."
"No." Namjoon stands up. "Not end of story. She wasn't my girlfriend. It was... complicated."
"....okay." Malia stares at him for a second before grabbing her water bottle and turning for the door.
"She was older than me." Namjoon forces out. "More mature."
