ATHENA CRUZ DID NOT WANT TO SING OUT LOUD. It wasn't that she was shy or anything, but it was the fear of being humiliated or even worse, rejected, that she dreaded the most. It made her uncomfortable, not that she would ever admit it. So when her best friend Tina Cohen-Chang asked her to join her in auditioning for the newly formed New Directions with her boyfriend Artie Abrams, she did not hesitate to say no very quickly.

"Please Tina. I won't do it, I have no idea how to sing...plus, it's not like you'll be alone, you have Artie with you." she pleaded to her best friend who was currently writing her and her boyfriend's name on the sign-up sheet. "Oh please, I hear you sing and dance along to movies all the time and it's not that horrible, you can do it." Tina encouraged as she dropped the pen back onto the board.

Athena never really minded her stutter, in fact, she thought it was cute and made Tina unique in a good way. This is why Athena couldn't help but feel proud of her best friend for deciding to step out of her comfort zone to do what she loved, something Athena secretly wished she had the courage to do so as well. Hence the conversation they were currently in right now.

"That's because it's Disney. Those songs are made with some type of voodoo magic that even makes the manliest man sing along. I was clearly being hypnotized." Athena replied with an obvious tone, while Tina playfully rolled her eyes at her excuse.
"She ain't wrong" added on Artie who earned a nudge from Tina.

It hurt Athena to see Tina's disappointment but there was no way she was auditioning for the glee club. But even though she wasn't going to audition doesn't mean she wasn't going to support it, she thought.
"Look, I won't stop you and Artie from auditioning, I'll still go with you and cheer you on to show how talented you two are." she said putting her hand on Tina's shoulder along with a huge smile hoping that it will make her drop the offer.

"Okay, okay I'll stop asking you. For now." Tina gave in with a slight smile as she thought of better ways to convince Athena later on. Satisfied with her friend's answer she jumped up. "Yay! I can sleep in peace tonight knowing I won't have to do this." Athena said giving her friend a hug and offering Artie a high five in which he also gave back. This short moment of content would not last very long because as soon as she and Tina turned around she was met with a hard cold red ice slap to the face.

"Welcome to McKinley losers!" a football player and a guy with a mohawk passed by the trio laughing. "Get used to it" added one of them although Athena couldn't really see who due to the corn syrup in her eyes.

"Oh my god, are you guys okay?" shockingly asked Artie beside them who was silently thanking his chair for making him avoid the red substance. Tina tried to respond but the shock of the ice-cold beverage making it hard for her to say a word.

With eyes closed Athena gasped out "My hair!" her hands going straight up to salvage her natural curls while still trying to process what had just happened.

"It's freezing" Tina finally managed to get out in a whisper while the rest of the student body around began to snicker at them, as it was something they saw happen every day. Tina reached out to grab Athena's hand in a way to comfort each other in this embarrassing situation.

"That wasn't very welcoming." sadly said the curly-haired girl with a pout as Tina led them both to the bathroom to get cleaned off, Artie wheeling behind them.
