Spongebob gulped. squidward slinked his tentacle behind the sponge to rest on his square back as he led them towards the pink star, shining bright under the lights of the courthouse, standing at the end of the hall.
"squidward i don't think i can-" the yellow being looked up at the cephalopod, eyes wide. and when they met the others mahogany orbs, his breath hitched in his throat. the taller gave a soft half smile, pressing his suckers firmly and reassuring into the squares back.
"trust me on this, sponge."
the three of them stood in the empty courthouse hall, the crowd that was once filling the room now scattered and left once the spectacle had finished. spongebob grabbed his lanky arm shyly, feet turning in towards each other and knees beginning to wobble violently.
"patrick has something to say," squidward gave a knowing nod to the green shorts wearing one. spongebob opened up his mouth to protest, but the star shushed him and shook his head, placing his stub gingerly against the lemon squares soft luscious lips. spongebobs eyes lit up in shook! they darted to look up at his ex lover in worry, only to see squidward rolling his eyes, smacking the star upside the head. "not that you knucklehead!"
"ohhh," patrick pulled his hand away and reached into his belly button, retrieving a rolled up paper note out with a satisfying pop! he unrolled it carefully and pulled out a pair of reading glasses and cleared his throat. squidward sighed and pinched the brim of his nose. spongebob and squidward both knew that patrick didn't need them to read, but it gave him confidence so they didn't protest it. "spongebob, firstly i'd like to say that i am sorry. secondly i'd like to apologize for telling you me and squidward were in love. fourthly id like to say im sorry for leaving you for squidward because i thought he said he loved me when he was telling me to 'let go'. lastly i'd like to say im sorry." Patrick let the paper fall to his side, revealing an empty sheet of paper in his hand.
"what he was supposed to say was, we forgive you sponge." squidward said, reaching out to rest a tentacle on his arm. spongebobs eyes welled up with tears.
"you really mean it?" he asked. his two friend nodded and went into hug him. they stayed like this for a while before spongebob perked up, "i love you guys!"
squidward pulled back and cleared his throat, "speaking of, we should probably talk about ... us." he spoke nervously, motioning an appendage between the three of them hesitantly.
