My sister and I lived parallel lives.
She always looked forward to our birthday and I dreaded it, it was the one day our parents had to pretend to care. The one day they felt they could magically make up for all the damage. We were currently seated at a giant table with a bunch of guests and relatives whose names we couldn't recall. Helena had hosted a huge party to celebrate Tee's sixteenth birthday, I'd say it was more hers than mine.
She tried her best to make me feel included, cutting me a slice of cake, giving me some of her many gifts, she never stopped holding my hand. I thought she'd stop when we grew older but she still did, I couldn't tell whether she was doing so for my sake or her own.
"Come on Ace why don't we go raid father's liquor cabinet and truly get this party started!" She suggested,
"I don't drink anymore I told you that." I shrug,
"No you didn't, you never tell me anything anymore since your last tour." She sighs, "but it's fine we can do whatever you want."
"Whatever I want?" I asked mischievously,
"Anything." She assured me, "it's your day."
"Our day, we could get tattoos," I suggested and her cheeks flushed with worry,
