Chapter 3: Dinner ft. Dad

Mac Donalds was a blast. Tori dropped me off afterwards. Turns out we live in the same neighborhood. I skipped into the house, happier than I've been in a very long time. Mom was putting dinner together.

"Hey mom"

I greeted her as I dumped my stuff on one of the bar stools at the island in the kitchen, joining her.

"Hey you. You look happy. What's his name?"

Trust my mother to think that the only way to happiness is through a boy. I rolled my eyes.

"First day of school mom. There's no 'him'. Geesh."

"Keep telling yourself that Ki." She said, smirking at me. Ugh! Mom. Really?

"Anyway, what's the occasion? Theres waay too much food here for just you, Caleb and me."

I saw her hesitate like she was contemplating what to tell me.

"Mom. Who's coming?"

She sucked in her breath.

"Your father is coming over for dinner Ki."

"What?! No frickin' way!"

She silenced me with a wave of her hand.

"I know what you're thinking Ki, but he's your father and I expect you to give him the respect he deserves. If not him, then show me a little respect. You're going to have dinner with him and you'll be of your best behavior. And that's all I want to hear about it." She said with a note of finality. There was no arguing this time. I picked my stuff and stormed off to my room. How could she let him in? We finally have a little serenity in our lives and she's bringing him back? All he's going to do is ruin in. Way to go mom. I plugged in my iPod as soon as I got to my room; Linkin Park's "Numb" blaring from the speakers. I ran into the shower and turned on the water full blast letting the water run over me.
