The Manhunting racoon would that is following the duchess would be now in your and Julia's sight.

Friedrich: "FIRE! FIRE!" She said in a panicked tone

You shot first and it misses the racoon due to its size Alex would fire and misses also as the the racoon got close Julia would also get close, as Julia got close she would grab the racoon by it's neck and stabs the racoon until it dies like it's just nothing but a piece of paper.
