Struck by Lightning is an anthology featuring works that span several years of my life. Some are new and fresh, some I wrote or first conceived of several years ago. Most stories will feature elements of cosmic horror while some stay a little more grounded. Though all will delve into elements of the fantastical, mystical or scary. Some of the stories are inspired by other works, mostly video games like Rimworld or Escape from Tarkov and convey my love and admiration for them. Ejected to the surface of Grimworld, a planet with a base-building system, Marcus has to master the system in order to survive and prosper. Even if he can cope with the monsters and environmental dangers, there are warlike tribes to consider, twenty of them, in a complex arrangements of alliances. Staying alive, let alone prospering, is a daunting challenge that even a battle-hardened general would find daunting. Yet Marcus treats the situation with relish. A (short) story from a particularly memorable battle I recently had in Rimworld. Inspired by HeardnSeen's fantastic story (which some may remember) but ended up being written in a different style, unfortunately. Of course, the game doesn't literally allow one to talk to NPCs except for trading. Also, I have not read the Rimsenal lore regarding the Federation in-depth, so some parts might disagree with rooki12k's lore. I just imagined them as being mainly a group that sought to turn captured humans into their xenomorph monsters and ran with that Care has been taken to describe the battle as accurately and faithfully as it can be pieced together from the screenshots taken and my memories of it. With a little bit of imagination and world-building, I hope it is a realistic portrayal of the circumstances that led up to the battle and its aftermath. And, of course, an enjoyable (and hopefully not too cringe-y) read. Thank you!
