michael blinked open his big doe eyes to the sight of you. he did a crinkled up smile causing you do blush and smile back down at him.
he closed his eyes again as you lowered down to press a tender kiss to his temple. you ran your fingers through his hair as you looked deeply into his eyes. "how long was i out?" he yawned.
"only an hour." you replied sweetly. michael scoffed as he slowly sat up. he stretched out his arms backwards and yawned again. you giggled in awe as you watched him wake himself up. god was he cute.
"uh michael?" you cleared your throat. he turned his head to you with heavy eyelids. "yes." he whispered. you shifted uncomfortably and sat up straighter. you took some deep breaths and finally continued.
"earlier, i-i kinda overheard you and sonny talking about uhm something." you stammered. michaels face dropped. he was now wide awake with color flushing from his cheeks. he turned to sit next to you and grabbed your hands in his.
"y/n that, that was a fib for sonny. i-it isn't what it sounded like." he hurriedly told you. you rose your eyebrows and giggled. "stop panicking, i'm not mad." you sighed. michael swallowed the lump in his throat and relaxed a little.
"i think what you said was actually really sweet." you sung. he furrowed his eyebrows at you. "yeah but y/n, i-i was acting like you were my priority or something. i shouldn't have but i need sonny to think that i'm just helping. i don't want him to know that i'm falling for their hostage." he sighed.
you blushed and looked down at your hands. "f-falling for me?" you breathed out. michael threw his head sideways and chuckled. "ive been stuck in a room with you for like a week, you expect me not to?" he grinned. "i honestly thought i was a priority." you responded.
"oh darling no no no of course you're not." he pleaded as he cupped your cheek. "i don't know where the hell you came from, but i'm glad. i like having someone in this house to talk to who isn't obsessed with money." he smirked. you smiled up at him as he cupped your face with his other hand as well.
"i'm not gonna let anything happen to you." he whispered. he then leaned into you and kissed you softly. you closed your eyes at the impact and melted into him. his touch, his lips, his demeanor they were all so soft. he was such a gentle and kind soul.
he pulled away to look at you. you stared into his brown pools of light. his eyes had so much sympathy in them. they made you feel warm and loved. his gaze was so comforting.
"i'm sorry." he whispered. you crinkled up your face with a big smile. "you're forgiven." you giggled. he smiled his big adorable silly smile. your heart filled with joy.
michael suddenly grabbed you and lifted you onto his lap. you squealed. you wrapped your legs around him and hung your arms around his neck. he looked at you deeply. like he was looking at something he'd never seen before. the way he studied your face with his slightly crinkled eyebrows. it was merely a beautiful sight.
he brushed away, a stray hair, behind your ear. "y/n." he softly said. "michael." you mocked.
he grabbed you again and turned you so your back was to him. you remained in his lap as you leaned your head back onto his shoulder to look up at him. you knitted your eyebrows. "remember when you asked me to tell you my war story." he announced. you nodded. "tell me your life story." he smiled. you chuckled. "you told me your WAR story not your LIFE story." you whispered. "that's for another time because right now i want to hear about your life." he replied. you sighed and nodded, lifting your head from his shoulder.
michaels hands met your hair as he started to play with it like a child. twirling it around, running his hands through it, braiding it.
you giggled and cleared your throat.
"i was born in 1941 on y/b/d, in wyoming. my parents spilt up when i was like 2, so my dad left to god knows where. uh i have a brother, eddie. we were never real close or anything though. and then there was my mom. my mom was the strongest, kindest, most beautiful woman. she did everything she could for me and eddie. she worked 3 jobs. me and eddie both helped out as much as we could. i'm pretty sure eddie was selling some drugs or something because he would sometimes come home with 10 dollar bills. i was younger, so the only job i could get was babysitting. and let me tell you, baby sitting in that town? yikes. anyways, as we grew up, my brother left when he turned 18. i haven't really heard much from him since. he's 3 years older than me, so i was only 15, taking care of my now dying mother. she was starting to get into um some pretty hard drugs and fell into a depression. i took care of her as much as i could. but when i was 18, trying to get into college, she overdosed on meth and died. so i was kicked out of my apartment. so i made my way to new york. i met this guy while there, and hit it off right away. him and me moved out of the city to a small town called norwood. just as shitty as my childhood town hah. in 1942 we uh, w-we went our separate ways. so i got a job at a restaurant and eventually made a deal with the owner, to let me stay upstairs. so uh since then i've just been trudging along with a small apartment and a job as a waitress. it's not paradise but it's all i know. until i saw your house because, wow."
once you'd finished you sat in silence for a bit. michaels hands no longer occupied your hair. you felt gross. you probably overwhelmed him, i mean that's a lot to take in.
but then, he wrapped his arms around you and pulled you close to his chest. he rested his chin on your shoulder and began to sway back and forth.
"i'm sorry y/n." michael sighed. you leaned your head against his and sighed as well. "i'm okay." you responded sweetly.
michael started to pepper soft kisses to your collarbone and neck. you melted into his touch. his small little kisses felt like the most gentle but sweet kisses ever. you smiled and held onto his arms as he rocked you back and forth.
like you said, your life was not paradise. but here, it kind of felt like it.
