Sela could not believe what she heard, "study subject? As in part of an experiment?" Her voice raised unknowingly.
Haechan scowled, caught off guard by her voice, "can you not scream in my ears?"
"Can you explain what the hell is going on?"
"All the participants have agreed to the terms of the research."
"So what? That still doesn't make it any better."
"Well, maybe if you just let me explain," he was getting impatient.
"Fine, go on."
"The purpose of the project is to study the psychological and physical endurance of humans in an attempt to enhance and recreate them. The subjects undergo scenarios from their life where they felt emotions associated with pain. Levels of discomfort decide the order of the scenarios. If a subject can endure and past the highest level, they can get their memories of the last scenario, the one that generated the most pain, erased."
"So what if they can't get past all of the levels?"
"That's the one thing I am yet to discover. As you can see, we are still on subject number one."
"What's the name of this project?"
"The S-project."
So this is what they are doing with our tax money? Human experimentations???
"Are these people human?"
"Yes, as in humans from different moments in time. This particular subject is from the year 2020."
Suddenly, noises were booming from the speakers. "Oh my God, what is that?" Sela grimaced, plucking both of her ears.
"That's BLUE, the subject's solo song."
"Is he a singer?"
"He is a Kpop idol."
"What is a Kpop idol?"
"Him."
Confused, but Sela didn't want to press any further as she noticed Haechan was already in a trance staring at TY. She followed his gaze, and she, too, was mesmerized by the way the subject moved.
TY appeared to be practicing as he danced in front of the mirror. His body flowed with ease, dynamically engaging his long limbs to create fluidity, utilizing all of the space with every step he took. BLUE, even the title already carried that melancholy feeling. The lyrics expressed the frustration and exhaustion of life and what it means to be human. Sela could almost feel the pain in his voice as she listened. She could not imagine the agony this man had to go through that drove him to create a song like BLUE.
