Skylar Evans

It was right there staring straight at me, like I was its next prey and there was no escape.

I definitely didn't expect a reply

Heck, I didn't even plan to apply

But here I was in my two person apartment, staring at the letter of acceptance to Manchester's most intellectual art school, Mountain View School of the Arts.

Filling out the application was supposed to be a joke

I scrunched my black waves into my hands and held my head whilst shaking my head in disbelief.

"You've got to be kidding me!"

The sound of the second bedroom opened and out walked my roomate, Xaiver.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" His morning voice hit my ears and I noticed that his hair was disheveled from the tossing and turning in his bed. "It is only.... what? Nine o'clock in the morning."

I chuckled. "Sure Xaiv, sure if you want to believe that it is only nine o'clock." I pushed him by his stomach lightly and continued, "I think you need to apply for some glasses because as far as I can tell that clock says one - thirty p.m."

As Xaiver let out a hoarse chuckle, I tried to stuff the application in my front pocket of my ripped skinnys, but I was too slow.

Xaiver reached for the paper and gave me a teasingly look.

"Oh, what do we have here, Sky?" His eyes scrutinized as they dashed across the paper and when he finished, his eyes widened. "NO FREAKIN WAY! You got accepted?!" He picked me up and spun me around. "What the heck are you going to do and are you actually gonna leave me here in Chicago?"

I shook my head vigorously and gave him a signature smirk.

"Of course I will not leave you by yourself here, that is not very friend like of me to do. Do you even remember how I even applied for this stupid school?"

He smiled exposing his one dimple.

"Of course I do, after all I was the one to dare you to do it."

XxX Flashback XxX

"Come on Xaiver, spin the bottle."

I groaned and dug my feet under me to sit in a crissed - crossed applesauce manner.

" I already told you guys that I don't want to play this, how many more times do I have to remind you all?"

They all chuckled while the guy next to me handed me his red solo cup and I immediately knew what was in it.

He lifted his eyebrows up as I grasped the cup, "Drink. You'll need it."

I looked at the beer that slushed inside the cup for a moment and without hesitation I chugged it down. I shook my head as my wavy hair flew back and forth and I grimaced from the bitterness as the alcohol went down my throat. I finally grinned and gave an 'Ok' signal.

"Let's do this!" Xaiver gave a haughty laugh as he spun the bottle and it then slowed to a stop on...... me?

"Oh heck naw, why does the fate.... of the....world have to point towards... Xaiver all th..e time?"

There was a pounding sensation in my head as I felt my heart beat race and my words began to slur. It was only one cup and I had not expected for it to have effects but then again I can only handle one cup. Alcohol never was great with my body even though beer is supposed to be the lightest thing ever.

It must run in the family

I noticed now everyone was refilling their cups and I did the same. I chugged the second cup down and was beginning to feel looser than before.

Expect the unexpected, right?

Xaiver's hand trembled slightly and everyone laughed sputtering their own slurred words.

Xaiver stuck his chin out in a prideful manner and pointed at me."You. You.... have n...o... ideuh how luckeyyy I feel about now." He leaned closer towards my direction and smirked. "Truth or Dare?"

I moved teasingly towards his face until our noses were brushing and breathed, "Dare."

Xaiver's eyes flickered to my lips and then back to my eyes and my thoughts spun into an even bigger jumble of letters. Everyone around us guffawed.

"Well, how about.... sendin.. a forum for tha...t ..... college. .... you .... hate... so much and send a vid of you dancin, doll."

My cheeks flushed and I went into a fit of giggles.

"Just pass.... me, that laptop."

XxX Flashback Ends XxX

"Sky! Pass the yellow can!" I grabbed the yellow spray paint can and tossed it towards Xaiver to see that he was tagging someone's piece. "I am almost done! Now, then we shall see each other's and see who did better."

I scoffed whilst grabbing the black spray paint from the black duffel bag that was between us and finished off my own piece that consisted of signs going different ways and a girl with a bandana around her mouth, holding a spray paint can. I guess you can kind of say she represented me.

Obviously

"THERE THEY ARE! TRESPASSERS! TRESPASSERS, AND THEY ARE TAGGING OUR WALL!"

My eyes widened as someone's yelling filled my ears and I garbbed the duffel bag whilst stuffing the cans quickly in there. Xaiver grabbed my wrist and we began running with the echoing footsteps behind us. As we were running in a zig zag motion, I noticed a sign planted firmly near the entrance of the empty lot and house.

Beware: Black Bullets Territory
Trespassers are punished
by Death

Those first words were enough to take the breath out of me.

Black Bullets

They were the most wanted burglars, drug dealers, land lords, murders, and the most merciless street artist in all of Chicago.

They even killed Xaiver's father

"Shi.... shizzle crackers Xaiver, we need to get out of here immediately. By immediately, I mean now!"

Xaiver kept running and I failed trying to keep his pace. His eyebrows knitted together and he bit his lip before speaking.

"You think I don't know that? ! Come on Skylar, I am trying my bes-"

His sentenced was cut off by the sound of a:

Gunshot
