The Boarding School Library

After night falls, you sneak out of your room, tiptoeing across the floor as to not wake your classmates. After you make it out of the dormitory, you practically run to the library, the moon being your light, and your memory being your guide.

You peek through the windows of your school's library, and sure enough, not a person in sight. You open the creaky wooden door slowly and feel your way towards the nearest table. You pull the lamp cord, and the green lamp lights up the small area surrounding it.

Your comb over the books, looking for the one you read last time. Eventually, you manage to find it. You open it up where you left off, and start reading. As you do so, rain starts to pour outside, followed by lightning, and the occasional clap of thunder. Despite this, you keep reading.

"Once more she found herself in the long hall, and close to the little glass table. "Now, I'll manage better this time," she said to herself, and began by taking the little golden key, and unlocking the door that led into the garden." You glance at the words, dimly lit by the flickering green lamp.

You recognized the door you used to enter creaking, and you heard the footsteps of someone walking in. You turned off the lamp, and hid underneath the table, holding the book to your chest with bated breath.

"Oi, anyone here? No students allowed in the library at night!" you heard the man say. The voice was that of the school's janitor. You heard footsteps as he paced around the library, but he didn't catch a glimpse of you. "Must'a been my imagination... I'm gettin' old..." The footsteps grew quieter, and the door slammed shut, signaling his leave.

You cautiously stepped out from beneath your hiding spot and put the book back on the shelf. Slowly and surely, you made your way back to the dormitory, into your room, and went to bed for the night, ready to do it all again tomorrow.
