I walk in to the hallway, my earphones in, my music playing.
"Lily!" I hear someone yell frantically, from behind. I swivel around, quickly, smiling to myself. I immediately recognise the voice.
"Hey Jen," I greet, casually.
"Can you believe it's the first day? Do you know what this means? A new year, a new me!" Jennifer blabbers, and I laugh.
"What?!" Jen demands, and I roll my eyes.
"Jen, you say that every year," I explain, and she frowns, looking hurt.
"YEAH! But this time I mean it." Jennifer insists, crossing her arms.
"You know what you also say every year? Take a guess, Jen," I sigh, and she frowns, pouting.
"Jen, don't pout at me. I'm telling the truth," I say, and she looks at me, with uncertainty. I yank her arm, pulling her towards our lockers.
"Well, Jen. I'm here. Where are you?" I ask her, referring to the lockers. She frowns, scratching her head. She looked like an idiot, scratching her head, muttering to herself, looking closely at the map. I chuckle.
"Pass it here, Jen," I say, taking the map off of her.
"You're locker is..over there.." I sadly point at the other side of the hallway.
"What?!" She shrieks, and my smile fades.
"Jen, it's nothing new." That's true. We're never put together. I swear every teacher has something against us. I don't know what we did to deserve it. Maybe the teacher lounge is exactly like high school. Gossiping, lies and rumours. There is probably a rumour going around about us. But why us? I sigh.
"Who have you got a locker next to?" I ask Jen, and she frowns at the map, and her eyes widen.
"Lily!" Jen shrieks, fanning her face. I glance at her map. Dan Connors.
"Oh my.." I begin to mutter.
"I can't believe it!" She shrieks, and I roll my eyes.
"I know you might not like him, but Lily!" Jennifer continues, and I sigh.
"You're obsessed." I state, and she shakes her head.
"Nuh-uh!" She denies, and I sigh, blowing hair out of my face.
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"Well..Lily! He's the hottest guy in the school!" Jennifer defends, and I sigh.
"We all have opinions.." I mutter and she grins.
"Who have you got?" Jen asks. I check my paper in my hands.
"Gabrielle." I utter, in disgust.
"You..you got Gabrielle?" Jennifer stammers.
"Yeah.." I finalise. I throw it down on the ground, in anger.
"Lily..maybe she's different," Jennifer suggests, and I frown.
"What if she's the same?!" I yell, not realising I'd hurt Jen.
"I'm..gonna go." Jen says, and I look at her, worriedly as she walks away.
"Jen! I'm sorry!" I try, but she ignores me. I sigh, picking up my crinkled map about the school, and walk over to my locker. I open it, and stuff all of my books, neatly, in to the bottom half. I pull out my necessary items, and put them in my locker. As I pull out my pencil case, I see one of my most treasured posters fall out and land in front of someone. I watch cautiously as they pick it up, and bring it over to me.
"Oh..hey Lily," they greet, and I gulp quietly.
"Hey Gabrielle.." I squeak.
"Is this yours?" Gabrielle asks, holding out my poster and I nod, helplessly.
"I didn't know you liked them," she says. I look at her. Who DIDN'T know I like them?
"Oh..well I do. I see you're the locker next to me," I speak up, and she smiles.
"Yep." she says, as her long, dark red hair flicks over her shoulder. Okay, so she's not exactly like I remember her...at all.
"So.." Gabrielle mumbles, awkwardly as she opens her locker. I watch her put all of her books in her locker, neatly in particular racks. I see her reach in to her bag, for some photos or posters of some sort.
"You..you like them too?" I ask, as she pulls out a similar picture to mine.
"Uh-huh. Love them," she says, grinning at the picture, before she puts it in.
"I see her take out a smaller picture, looking blankly at it, and putting it way inside her locker. I couldn't believe Gabrielle liked them. I reach in to my bag for a popper, realising it was little time until our first class.
"Since when have you liked Rizzle Kicks?" I ask Gabrielle, and she smiles.
"Ever since I met them," Gabrielle replies, dreamingly. That's when the juice from my popper comes flying out of my mouth, and on to Gabrielle's gorgeous sweater. What?!
Kill me.
"Whoa, calm down! Aww, look at my sweater!" Gabrielle complains, bringing a bit of her old self back.
"I'm so sorry, Gabrielle! Seriously, I am just..I feel terrible!" I gush, and she chuckles.
"Geez, my sweaters not THAT important, don't worry," she says, rolling her eyes, laughing. I chuckle nervously.
"So..you met them?" I ask her. And she nods.
"Harley is way more amazing, so is Jordan. But Harley.." Gabrielle mumbles, and I laugh. I continue to put my stuff in my locker. The stuff consisting of a few more posters of things, family pictures and school items.
"It's been so long, Lily." Gabrielle says, in the quiet.
"Yeah," I mumble softly, and she smiles at me. There's an awkward silence between us as we put our books in our locker, leaving out the ones we'll need.
"Wow, we better leave for class." I say, and she nods.
"Boo!" I hear behind me, making me jump.
"Jason!" I say, jumping up and hugging him.
"I missed you!" Jason says, grinning.
"Are you two..?" Gabrielle interrupts. I laugh, awkwardly.
"No, no, no, no, no." I chuckle, and he laughs.
"Nah, just friends," he agrees.
"Are you sure?" Gabrielle asks, with raised eyebrows.
"Yes!" I say, frowning.
"Okay," Gabrielle replies, still obviously unconvinced.
"Well, I'm going to go." Gabrielle says, and I smile.
"Okay, bye!" I say, waving and she waves back.
"Don't you hate her?" Jason asks. It's the question I've been asking myself this whole time. Do I hate Gabrielle?
