Lydel's POV (surprise bitches)

I walked out of the council's office, joking around with Jake, the vice president of the council. My attention is immediately drawn towards the crowd beside our office, the nurse's office. I called Avery over to check and clear the crowd a little.

Avery, Jake and I forced our way through the crowd as the others tried to get them to the classes. As soon as I was inside the room, my eyes landed on the girl lying on the bed. My breath hitched as the fear set in and my eyes widened.

“Where is Nurse Betsy?” I shouted, not taking my eyes off the limp form of Astria.

“In Mr. Bolt’s office,” A student replies, referring to the principal.

“Then go get her, you dumb fucks,” I replied harshly. A hand landed on my shoulder and I see Jake looking at me sympathetically.

“Calm down,” He said and my anger flared. How can he expect me to be calm when my best friend, my sister basically, is lying unconscious and pale? I ignored him and knelt down beside her. Everything else drowned in the background as I muttered a small prayer before taking her wrist in my trembling hands. My eyes were on my watch as i waited to feel something from her wrist.

It took longer than expected, but I did find a pulse. I thanked the Lord as I pulled out my phone. My finger hovered above ‘Emergency 2’ to call him but I changed my mind and called ‘Emergency 1’. I waited impatiently, pacing across the small room as the phone ringed. I waited for him to pick up the call but it was declined.

I just really want to punch Octavian in the face sometimes.

I tried again but was met with disappointment. I cursed him out as dialled the, ‘Emergency 3’. Thankfully, Zane picked up right on the second ring. “Lydel? Are you alright? Why are you calling me right now? Is Astria alright?” he bombarded me with questions the moment he picked up the call.

As soon as I heard his voice, I lost mine. I didn’t know what to say. The state Astria was in scared the shit out of me. It was as if I was back in time, watching her leave without knowing that I wouldn’t be able to talk to her for the next seven years. Tears threatened to spill out of my eyes as Zane spoke again, “Lydel? LYDEL? You’re really freaking me out here, sweetie,” He said. By the end of the sentence, his voice had taken up a soothing tone.

“It’s Astria,” I whispered.

"What happened?" He asked as I heard shuffling around him.

"It's-it's, she's un-conscious a-and pale, very pale. Also she's freezing, no, I mean yes," I stumbled around words in a state of panic until Zane stopped me.

"Alright, alright, Lydel, I need you to take deep breaths yeah? Just in and out okay sweetie?" I followed his instructions and calmed my racing heart as I went back to the phone, "Now, slowly explain to me what is happening."

"I'm not sure," I muttered, "I came into the nurse's office and she was laying there, limp, pale and unconscious. I checked her pulse, it's very slow and she is barely breathing. And she's very cold, Zane, freezing even," I replied, my voice cracking a little at the end.

"Okay, okay," Zane started, "Put me on speaker," I did as he told me to do, "alright, is Miss Betsy there?” He asked.

“No, she’s in the principal’s office. Someone has gone to get her,” I replied quickly.

“Okay, so first of all I was to check her clothes, are they wet? And her hair too,” He said. I quickly shoved the phone in Avery’s hand and check her shirt.
