The wind howled though the trees making the smell of Margrets fresh baked cherry pie flow though the air making an effort for people to visit her shop. She made the best cherry pies I've ever tasted... to bad they where so much money though, or I would have one everyday, right next to Margrets sweet little bakery is Jacks Bookshop, where I spent most of my time. I loved to read the stores of old gunslingers and tales of knights and kings and queens. If only real life was that exciting, but no it"s full of dumb old fat men and horse crap In the roads of Saint Denis.
I walk down the cobblestone path clutching my newest book close to my chest. Looking left and right I run across the street and make it to the church's courtyard. I sit on a ornate wooden bench and I open my book and begin to travel into a new world, This one is about a famous gun slinger "Sadie Adler' Ive read just about every book on her. She's the person I have always wanted to be, she doesn't care what people think, or what they do to her. She's so... amazeing
"Miss? I'm sorry Im afraid I don't know your name" A woman with a tight Champagne corset with a purple gown and a lace umbrella asked
"my name is Alice.. Is there a problem?" I ask
"Indeed! such a pretty girl like you shouldn't be wasting her day reading some... some book! you should be off finding a Husband! I demand you take that book back right away" the woman said he high pitched voice sewn with anger.
I take a deep sigh and I nod and start walking back to the bookstore. I walk in and feel like I am at home the smell of the new book pages puts a smile on my face as I walk to the counter.
"I um, Need to return this" I say putting the novel on the mans desk
The man looks at me with his dark brown eyes looking me up and down,
"You already finished it? says here you got it just today" he says looking quite impressed
"oh, no I would have loved too, but a lady on the street told me I had to return it and find a husband" I say knowing he can sense the guilt in my voice
"You know my father used to say something similar to me when I was a boy, "Jack stop reading those books and go out and ride a horse once in a while!" blah blah blah," He smiles and picks up the book gently and looks at the cover
"Amazing lady"
"Indeed, I believe I've read just about every book there is out there about her" I say proudly
"she was quite the catch, fiery one even with her friends"
he says that as if he knows her but how can that be possible he's just a book store owner, a nobody Sadie she was a one of a kind.
"Whats your name"
"uh... Its Rip Van Winkle" He says as if he's memorized it off a script
"right... what's your real name?"
"Jim Milton" He lies again
"don't play dumb I know your lying"
"oh please I was just messing with you Its Jack alright what's yours?"
I clear my throat and say, " Elizabeth Huntington the Third" In a very posh British accent.
we both laugh and Jack puts the book on its shelf
"You know I used to know Sadie in real life"
