CHAPTER SIX

Tobias' POV

Tris woke up right as the train was starting to slow at Amity. I grab her hand and lead her to the back of the train car. We wait a few seconds then sprint through the door and out into a field. I'm still kind of lost in Tris' eyes, so I roll on the ground then hop up. I have just realized my shirt is still dangling off my shoulders. Before going any further I pull it up and button it. Tris is standing next to me when I hear shouts. Not Dauntless, not Factionless, not Abnegation fighting about vanity, but Amity. The faction that values peace and kindness is fighting. I look around, I see two Amity boys swinging at each other. They're young, I'd guess about 15. Another boy runs up and starts pulling them off each other. I run up to them, Tris follows.

"Hey, what's going on?" I ask, gripping their shoulders to keep them apart. I look at the boy who ran over, he's also young. Younger than they are. He speaks up.

"I'm not sure myself," the boy says, " It's been happening a lot. The Amity boys have just started fighting for no reason. Sometimes even the girls! It seems like someone's fighting every day!" He has a concerned look on his face.

"Have you ever got in a fight?" I ask him. He shakes his head. "Divergent." The boy's face tightens.

"Uh, um," He starts staring at the ground. I walk over to him and crouch down.

"It's ok," Tris walks over and crouches next to me. "This is Six, I'm Four."

"I'm divergent too!" Tris says. He looks at us, and starts to grin.

"I'm Mason." I pat his back and stand up, Tris stands up with me.

"How old are you Mason?" Tris' voice is soft, delicate, like it could be destroyed in an instant.

"13." This has confirmed our theory: the factions are changing, all that's left are the divergents. We just don't know why, or how. Tris and I walked Mason back to one of the Amity farms, and explained what had happened. We start jogging back to the train tracks. When we see it, we run, then jump on. What is happening to our society? Why are the factions acting like this? I need to figure out why, before another war starts.

Tris' POV

Tobias is pacing by the door. He keeps scratching his head. I walk over to him, and put my hands on his shoulders.

"It's alright," I whisper in his ear. "It's all goonna work out." He turns around and smiles at me, I smile back.

"I know it is," he says, his eyes softeniing. "I just don't know when. What the factions value is what keeps the peace, if they don't value it anymore then there is no peace and all the factions are fighting again!" I can tell he's worrying by his tone. I wrap my arms around him.

"But they haven't yet, that's what matters."
