Not every story has a good ending. That was a lesson that both Tommy and Tubbo had learned for themselves pretty early on in their lives. Between the countless wars, battles, or whatever arguing took place, it never had a good ending. Being the hero was hard.

It was the end of the story now as Tommy and Tubbo stood defenseless before their captor. Dream, though victorious, had looked pretty messed up from the long hours of battle with the duo before him. Cuts and blood, most not his own, stained his body. As for the duo, they were in a much worse state than Dream was. Tommy was laced with cuts of all sorts and gashes that looked like they were close to the bone. His eye had started to swell up from collision with Dream's elbow. Tubbo on the other hand was handling a huge gash to the stomach and cuts all along his arms, which had taken quite the blow. The two stood panting before the green ruler trying to buy anytime to think of an escape and to gain their energy back.

"It's over!" called Dream, the smile behind his yell apparent. "This is the end for you guys!" The blonde chuckled before slinging his axe onto his shoulder. Walking over to the two, he pulled off his mask to reveal his smiling face.

Tommy took a step back, eyebrows furrowed with frustration as he tried to think of any way to escape this situation. He glanced over to Tubbo who looked as though he was hiding his pain. Tommy knew though. Growing up with Tubbo, he always knew whatever the other was thinking or going through. Tommy wondered if Tubbo could sense him out too. Maybe the other would be able to tell how hopeless he felt in this moment. Or maybe how sorry he felt for dragging his best friend into all of this. If it weren't for him or his mistakes or how dumb he was maybe-

"You're thinking too much..." the brunette interrupted. Green eyes focused on the other's blue ones, something he rarely ever did with Tommy anymore due to the length of his hair.

"I'll give you guys 2 minutes to decide, but one of you has to die." Dream said firmly, having made plans for either of them depending on who survived.

The duo's eyes widened at the ultimatum. 2 minutes to decide each's death?! Tubbo didn't expect too much from Dream at this point, it was always something cruel with him, but this was just a whole new level of cruel.

Tommy looked at Tubbo, shock twisting his face in all sorts of ways. Tears began to sting at his eyes, his mouth twisting into a quivering frown. "I-I can't kill you..." the blonde's voice shook as the thought played out in his mind. He couldn't kill his best friend. No. His brother. Tubbo was family to him. More family than his own brother's had ever been. Tubbo was the only person he had left.

Tubbo turned to face the taller male, fists clenched in anguish. It felt awful to admit, but a strange calmness claimed him in this moment. It was almost as if he had been preparing for a moment like this. Tubbo let out a small chuckle before looking up at the blonde before him. "This is like chess. And now, it's checkmate." A comforting smile panned it's way across the brunette's face as he took in a deep breath. "It was a nice run, we had many laughs, but our time is up Tommy."

The goat's words stunned Tommy even more. "How are you so calm?!" He shouted desperately. "One of us has to die and you can smile right now...?" Tommy's shoulders began to shake as his emotions built up within him.

"I'd rather smile while saying goodbye than leave you with a crying face," Tubbo joked, eyes starting to tear up despite his efforts to remain cheerful.

That elicited a laugh from the blonde, a hand reaching to his face to wipe his tears. "I suppose you're right. Besides, you're an uckers crier," Tommy joked, tears still streaming down his own face as he laughed with the brunette before him. Tubbo punched at his arm for the rude comment, but continued to laugh with the blonde.

"Time's up." Dream spoke, vibrant green eyes waiting for their decision.

A moment of silence fell between the duo before Tubbo opened his arms to Tommy. A final hug. Tommy let out a small breath before he leaned down and carefully wrapped his arms around the other. Now, he couldn't help but breakdown into tears as the other rubbed at his back. "Tommy...it's okay..." Tubbo consoled. "Just close your eyes and enjoy the moment..."

Tommy let out a shaky breath before leaning into the other. "Okay..."

It was only time before the serenity had been broken. A sharp pain struck Tommy's chest, and before he knew it, his chest flooded with blood. Falling to his knees, all he could do was stare up at the person he considered his brother, a sword impaled in his chest. Much like how Wilbur had been when he was slain by Phil. Blood poured from his mouth before he collapsed onto the ground, the sword yanked out from his chest and him being left there to bleed out. Everything became blurry before everything faded to black.

"I'm sorry Tommy...but Michael and Ranboo need me..." Tubbo murmured, staring down at the body of his best friend. He stood there for a moment, feeling as though he was the one who truly died. After a while, the brunette turned away, eyes glued to the ground as he faced Dream.

Dream was in a total shock. Maybe it was because he underestimated Tubbo too much, or maybe he expected Tommy to be greedy and go in for the kill first. He didn't allow his shock to remain for too long as the goat began to walk towards him. Dream built a portal and waited for Tubbo to leave before heading over to the body of the fallen hero. Leaning down, he brushed the hair from the blonde's eyes before shutting them. "The end...Theseus."
