This is not a part of the story but I hope you guys read it because it's an explanation of the A/B/O dynamics. So these may not apply to the whole omega verse au but I tried to keep it basic in this storyline.
First, let's talk about the hierarchy system or simply, the order in which the people are ranked. In our 'normal' human world, people are divided into two groups, that is male and female. Of course, there are sub genders but let's not talk about that now. Likewise in this au, there's a slightly different system. People are recognized by a male and a female when they're born but after reaching a certain age when the pups(kids) are presented they acquire another sub gender which determines nearly everything in their life, from different opportunities to rights, mostly everything. There arethree sub genders, namely Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Let's go into detail;
Presenting Presenting is a stage when a pup goes into heat or rut, determining whether they'll be an Alpha, Beta, or Omega. If they go into heat, their sub gender is 'omega' and if it's a rut, then their sub gender is 'alpha'. If any of these both don't happen then they're simply a 'beta'
Alpha Alphas are the highest-ranked according to the hierarchy system. They're the strongest and the most reputed among others. They're very protective, territorial, possessive, and most importantly, they can be very aggressive. Alphas can be both male and female. They can impregnate both omegas and female betas but can't be impregnated, even female alphas. An alpha's scent is usually musky and strong.
Beta Betas are just like us, normal humans but they have some exceptions. They have a weak scent as compared to alphas and omegas. Male betas can reproduce with female omegas and female betas with male alphas. However, this is not common as the experience can be very painful as a beta's body is not built in that way. Female betas are like our normal human females, they have a menstruation cycle and can get pregnant. Beta's scents are said to be more calming and that's why most of them choose the medical field as scents play an important role in daily life and having calming scents is a win-win situation for them.
Omega Omegas play a very important role in society just like the alphas. In most of the stories, omegas are treated like trash but it's not the same here. They go into heat which increases their fertility. Female omegas don't have any special anatomy but they produce slick and so do male omegas. Male omegas can get pregnant too but they're most fertile during their heat. They often suffer from infertility and miscarriages and difficult pregnancy. Omegas are usually fragile and have a sweeter scent compared to the others which is also a reason that makes them irresistible and victims of hideous crimes.
Heat An omega's heat occurs once a month or two. It's a state where the omegas are very needy and they produce a lot of pheromones to attract a potential alpha mate. They produce a lot of slick, a self lubricant, during their heats. Omegas mostly spend their heat with their alphas but there are plenty who spend them alone. They stay indoors to stay safe as their vulnerable state makes it easy for people to take advantage of them. Heat suppressants are present in the modern-day to help unmated omegas rid of their intense heat. Although it has its own drawbacks heat suppressants tend to be very useful.
Rut A rut is just like an omegas heat but the roles are reversed. Alphas are extremely dominant during their ruts. Alphas usually seek out unmated omegas so they can knot and breed or impregnate them. Both ruts and heat can be painful when spent alone.
Marking or mating Normally when a couple wants to take their relationship to the next stage they mate. Mating is a different form of wedding for the wolves. During mating, an alpha sinks its teeth into the juncture between the neck and the shoulder on the scent gland, marking them as their mate. Omegas can mark their alphas too but it's rare due to all the stereotypes. Marking or mating also causes their scents to mix a bit showing that the pair belongs to each other. They can also feel each other's feelings and emotions making them vulnerable and bare in front of their mate. Once mated the couple is bonded forever till they die. It's the strongest bond and once formed it can't be broken. If either of them dies, the other will suffer from immense sadness to an extent that it turns into physical pain. They'll slowly die of a broken heart. Even if one of them decides to leave the other the bond slowly starts dissolving which will result in the death of the other or if s/he survives it then they can continue their life. But they'll feel like a part of themselves is ripped apart. However, there are a few cures for the broken bond but not all the cases are the same so the success of the treatment depends on the person involved.
Scent All werewolves have a scent unique to them. They have scent glands located in the juncture between the neck and the shoulder. Scents play an important role in a wolf's life, you can even detect their emotions as the scent can turn sweet, bitter, or sour depending on one's mood. Werewolves like to scent their mates or family members, in short people who are close to them. Most of the omegas are scented by their alpha family members or friends so that people don't try to mess with them and they know that the particular omega belongs to a certain alpha and that they need to back off.
One last thing!!
In this book, the werewolves don't age normally, i.e. they can stop aging after a certain age. It solely depends on the person. If they wish to live a normal life like a human and die, they can do that. If they want to stay alive for long, they can do that too making them, in a sense, immortal. In simple words, they can freeze their aging. Hopefully, it's not very confusing ~
