Chapter 9-where'd you go?

"911, what's your emergency?" Dispatch asked, sitting on a computer. A headset on his ear as he answered the call. "Help! Someone, please help! A building just collapsed!" A woman said. Looking at the headquarters. Broken glass and rubble were everywhere. It was a mess. The pups were terrified as they saw it. Nobody was getting out.

Chase and Ryder were stuck... "alright Ma'am. What street is it at so we can get your location?" He asked calmly. "I don't know I'm just-oh no!" She begins to panic. "Alright ma'am, I have the location on the computer. I'll send an ambulance there immediately." The man told her calmly. The ambulance and fire department came.

"Marty Muckraker here, on the scene. The PAW Patrol's headquarters has fallen with no signs of a ten-year-old leader, Zachary Ryder. Nobody knows how the explosion started. Or who caused it." While the news anchor was talking. A team of firefighters broke in and cleared the debris to try to find the boy and his German shepherd pup. "Chris." The firefighter acknowledged as he started moving the large slabs of rock out of the way. Then... He saw a hand sticking out of the rubble.

Chris pulled the arm out. When he saw his body. His eyes winded..."No...." He said, his brown eyes darting back to his team then to Ryder. Chris picked up his body. The boy was covered in dirt. New cuts and brushes were formed on his body.

Chris carried him out of the rubble that was once where the PAW Patrol HQ stood. The firefighter had to hold back tears. He couldn't cry on the job. He had to keep it professional.

The pups saw him emerge from the sight holding Ryder but... No Chase. "Where's Chase?!" Rocky said. Then, another firefighter carried Chase out. Chase wasn't as badly hurt as Ryder was. The pups were about to throw up at the sight of their leader.

Ryder was loaded up into the ambulance as they drove to Adventure City medical center.

"Dr. Jessica to the ER. Dr. Jessica to the ER." Someone said over the loudspeaker. Jessica walked into that section of the hospital, as a stretcher rolled in carrying Ryder.

Jessica saw him and gasped his shock. "What happened?" Jessica asked. "A building exploded and it collapsed on him." A periodic said. "Get him into a room," she said as she walked with them to a room and put him on the hospital bed. Jessica's eyes widened as she looked at him.

The one word that came out was; "Zach?..." Jessica said as she saw his bruised and cut face.
Jessica was about to burst into tears but she couldn't. She had to stay professional in this situation and help her son. Chris was sitting in the waiting room. His head was in his hands. Chris was terrified that his son wasn't going to make it...

Then someone walked out. "How is he?" Chris asked the male doctor. "Well..." he breathed. "It's not good. He has a broken leg. His arm is fractured, and he has internal bleeding. But the good news, he's going to be fine. We fixed his injuries, all we have to do is wait..." he said. "My wife, Jessica. is tending to him, correct?" Chris asked, hoping she's attending to their son.

"Yes. Jessica is in the back with him. But you have to stay out here." He said. "Why do I have to stay out here?!" Chris asked. "He's also my son! I want to see him!"

"I can't let you do that if it was up to me. You can see him. But it's not and you have to follow the rules and guidelines put in place. Do you understand?"

Chris sighed and nodded to the doctor. "Great. We'll see if there's progress." He said, walking back into the Emergency Room.

Ryder has been stripped of his clothes and he's being sent off to the OR for surgery.

Jessica sat there. This was out of her hands now, all she had to do was wait...

The PAW Patrol ran to the hospital as fast as they can. Without their vehicles, it was almost impossible for them. And the hospital was on the other side of the city. But then; a man pulled up in a blue Toyota. "Hey! You're the PAW Patrol!" The man said. "You wanna ride?" He asked. The pups were unsure about this, but it'll be a faster way to get to the hospital. "Yes, thank you. Can you take us to Adventure City Medical Center?" Chase asked, from the front seat.

Liberty was the last one to get into the front and she went to the backseat with her friends. Except, Marshall and Zuma who was sitting in the passenger seat. The man drove to the hospital, Marshall was the only one who had his pack on. No one else. So he was able to fix Chase, thankfully. He just had a sprained paw. 

The driver looked down at the pups. "I'm so sorry for what happened to Ryder. I saw it on the news. Hopefully, he gets well...." The man said, driving. The lights from the buildings shone. The clock on his car said. 2:45 A.M, they were worried sick about Ryder. He was their leader. But... what about the headquarters? They couldn't go back to Adventure Bay, so... Where could they go? The hospital was coming into view.

Chase looked out the window. The man stopped his car in the parking lot. The man opened his door then opened the door for the members of the PAW Patrol to run inside of the hospital. People with masks saw them.

The members saw a man still hunched over with his head in his hands. Chase ran up to him first "hey! Chris!" Chris looked up and smiles. "Chase!" He said as the German Shepard pup jumped onto his lap and started licking him.

Chris laughed and pet him. "Aww, Chase! How are you, dude?!" He smiled. "I'm doing good. I'm worried about Ryder though..." he said whimpering. "I know, Chase..." he said, petting him.

A few hours later. They were asleep. The sun shone brightly in the sky. Then, finally. The doctor came back.

Chase was the first one to wake up. "Oh, are you the one working on Ryder?!" Chase asked.
"Will he be okay?!" He asked, as the others slowly woke up. The doctor smiled. "He will be fine. We fixed up most of his injuries. And some old injuries are back. But... Marshall, you did a pretty good job taking care of your leader after he got out of that situation." He said, mentioning the kidnapping that took place a month before. Marshall beamed. He was happy to be completed by a doctor.

Ryder was in a hospital bed. His clothes were on a chair beside him. He wasn't awake because the doctors gave him medication so he can get relief from the pain he's experiencing. Then. Jessica opened the door. She walked up to him and she took a nearby chair and scooted it by his bed. She sat down, Jessica took his hand and held it. She closed her eyes and hung her head.

Little strands of brown hair hung out on the side of her head, Jessica finally let all the pain out from the last few hours.

She choked out a sob. 
The room was quiet except for the steady beeping of the heart rate monitor. She sniffles as she tried to pull herself together. But she couldn't. Then someone walked into the room.

She saw him. "Chris..." Jessica stood up and ran to her husband and threw herself onto him and cried. Chris rubbed his wife's back in comfort.

"Please god! Please give us hope!" She sobbed. The pups were in Chris's car. Now they were heading back home with Ryder's parents until Ryder gets back and they can rebuild their headquarters.

Chris had some music going by Lucas Graham. The pups were all exhausted so they were asleep in the backseat. He turned up the radio.

He sighed as Chris gripped the steering wheel. The traffic wasn't as bad because it was a Saturday. It was a smooth drive back to the house that was on the other side of Adventure City. Chris stopped at a white medium-sized house.

He drove up the grey driveway and put his Tesla in park. The pups woke up and saw that they were at his house they went inside. Chris grabbed their daughter from Gary's house then, they went inside.
