mia-carmen - Pacific local - Hello! I'm Mia. I'm currently living in the Pacific Northwest working in childcare. My parents are OFW from the Philippines so I was born and raised in American Samoa. I hope to share and learn more about my culture and identity with everyone from other parts of the world. When I was in my first year of college in the States, I had an identity crisis because a lot of people viewed me as "not Filipino enough or not Samoan enough." Now, I've learned to accept my flaws and leaned more into my Filipino roots more but was raised as a Pacific islander. Even until now I'm a bit here and there...so I've recently made up this term but for now I would say I'm a Pacific local as someone who has lived on a Pacific island.
