"The McLellan's property sold almost overnight

"The McLellan's property sold almost overnight. 1322 Rayburn has several offers already," Tanner said as he glanced down at a summary report in his lap.

"That's great. And you're handling things okay?" I asked. "You'd come to me if you had any issues, right?"

"Of course. It took a while to get used to being so hands-on with the clients, but I'm actually really enjoying it."

I called a meeting with Tanner at the lake house so I could make sure everything was running smoothly. He looked uncharacteristically relaxed as he sat on a folding chair next to me. It was a good look for him... and me - since he was representing my brand at the moment.

A year ago, Tanner had stumbled through my doorway, nervous and soft-spoken - the qualities exactly opposite of what you'd imagine a suave realtor to be. I could have cut the interview short and opted for a more charismatic and witty candidate. But sitting across from him was like looking into a mirror. Hadn't I been the same way when I first started? I never expected to be the owner of my own company - one that relied on people skills and persuasion. Never in a million years.

Someone gave me the chance to grow and evolve from an insecure boy to a confident man, and I felt like it was my obligation to do the same. Hiring Tanner was a no-brainer.

Seeing him now, relaxed and collected, I knew I'd made the right decision. And even though it was hard to hand over responsibilities I usually took care of myself, it needed to be done or I'd never finish this renovation.

Part of me almost forgot that I was still a realtor and not just Presley's lackey. Ever since I asked for her help, she'd become a permanent fixture in my life. Whenever she wasn't working at the diner, she was here bossing me around. Maybe she deserved some credit, though. At the moment, she was patching the drywall in the bathroom where we'd found the termite damage. My wallet was traumatized from the cost to fix that issue, but at least I knew tiny bugs weren't eating away at my house.

Presley saved my sanity by coming through with amazing deals on the cabinets, flooring, and window packages. My neighbor was not lying when she said she had connections.

With all that said, the decision to pay Presley for her help was an easy one. She complained that I wanted to pay her too much, which was ridiculous. But there was no use arguing with her, so I pretended to agree with the amount she wanted. My plan was to place a direct deposit into her account once the renovation was finished. I wasn't about to take my chances with a cheque considering her reaction the last time she got one.

"I can't believe how different this place looks." Tanner stood up and walked around the kitchen area which was prepped and ready to receive cabinets early next week. I couldn't wait to get this place functional again.

"All thanks to me." Presley appeared with a smirk on her face. She set down her mudding supplies and wiped a hand across her forehead. "All done."

"That was fast," I said, surprised. She'd only been gone for twenty minutes.
