Chapter 1 - Unexpected Optimism
"Uh- Unkle Reki-?" Where did he even go? I need to catch the bus, I might have to run ther- is that a letter on the fridge? It reads, "Sorry bud, I have to go to work early, something urgent. Make sure you eat something, breakfast is very important. I'll cya tonight." Just my luck..
I dash out the door, making my way to the bus stop. Right as I get there the bus drives off. "Damnit..." I sit down on the bench at the bus stop and realize someone else missed it too. "Where are you going?" they sit down next to me. "Uhm." No one really talks to me- "My stop was Hopes Peak! I'm Kaito Momota, Luminary of the stars!" He says that with the brightest smile. I was so caught up in his smile that I didn't notice he held out his hand for me to shake. I slowly shook his hand. "Sh-Shuichi. Shuichi Saihara. I'm going to Hopes Peak Highschool as well-" His face completely lit up. "You are? Sweet!! Wanna walk together? I'm a bit lonely honestly." He really wants to hang out with me? He could be friends with anyone- wait this is my chance!! "S-sure-" Right as I said it he jumped up and grabbed my hand before running. I was so caught up in freaking out about all that just happened in so little time, I didn't realize we were about to fall, and so I couldn't stop it.
I fell right on top of him. I quickly got up, just to make sure- "Dude I am SO sorry- are you okay?" He gets up as well. I nodded, giving him a timid smile. "Maybe we should just walk-" He gave a small awkward chuckle. He said that like we weren't going to be EXTREMELY late. I started to speed walk right past him, and he followed. "You're way more eager to get to school than I am-"
