March 2017
The second semester commenced. Everyone was accustomed to the college and it just feels like we'd been living here since forever. As the classes were shortened, we were asked to attend at least one workshop of our choice. We were given a long list filled with nearly 35 workshop categories with most of the names I haven't even heard of to date. The chatter in the class arose with a low sound that slowly turned louder than the lecture. The lecturer got irritated and left the class in a hush. The people here didn't even notice him leaving. All the people belonging to the respective bunch chose what their team head picked.
I turned to the window and sat with my legs crossed on the bench. I didn't know what to pick. I eavesdropped to hear what the people on my next bench are about to pick. After an hour of discussion, they chose the workshop on the subject that is included in our semester. "Why did they even have to discuss to choose this one? This is the least subject I'm interested in this semester. I don't want to pick it for the workshop too", I thought and called up Ishani as it's her lunchtime now.
"Hey! What happened? You never call in the middle of the class. Is everything okay?", Ishani sounded a little worried.
"Yep, everything's alright, it's just that the lecturer left the class and we've been asked to choose a subject for the workshop."
"Oh! The workshop? We've been asked to do too! But let's see if we've any subject in common", she answered.
We read out each other's lists and found nothing in common as we belong to different branches.
"Ah! Bad luck", Ishani sighed.
"Yeah, that's okay, I'll figure something out, see you in the evening. Bubbye", I said wondering what to choose.
"Yeah, done, bye".I turned to my usual position and looked at him from over my shoulder. He is playing the form with his fingers, probably filled it up. Unable to decide, I chose something I've heard over the summer and handed the list to the monitor.
The next morning, I went straight up to the workshop area to secure a system in the front row, "At least, I'll pay attention to the workshop if not classes", I thought. There was a list displayed on the notice board that is on top of the window. As I'm just 5 feet and 2 inches(see, I'm being honest), I'm unable to look at all the names. I'm just trying to find my name as I'm still dubious about the place if this is where the workshop is about to happen. I look across the hall and there is not even a single student although I see a sweeper woman dusting the windows and cleaning the place.
I began making my eyes smaller to see the list clearly.
"Ah! gotcha! Aditi Verma-03" and then I saw a familiar number on the list and couldn't take my eyes off the list. 57.
"57!!! That's him", I quickly rolled my eyes to the left column to read out his name.
"S H R I Y A N S H - 0 5 7", as I read, a bunch of guys from my class began screaming "SHRIYANSH!! You here!?" I turned around to see him.
"Shriyansh!! My man!! I didn't know you're in this too! Yay!" they began jumping over him, he was about to say something "I.." and he suddenly shifted his gaze towards me. I stood there stunned looking at him. "Ah, yeah! It's just.. um... Let's go", he continued and abruptly shifted it. All the students began entering the block as we move towards the workshop lab.
I'm in utter shock. "I mean, what are the odds!? One in thirty-five subjects?" I immediately texted Ishani about it before entering the workshop. She quickly responded with "Ah! You missed reading your horoscope today. Do you know it reads "Romance is on your cards!?" "Haha! Shut up Ishani" I chuckled leaving the mobile in my bag as I enter the workshop.
