Chapter 5: Games (Fallon's POV)

There was a knock on my door while I got ready and brushed my hair. I went and answered the door, letting Remy in.

"Hey," she smiled. She sat on the bed, taking a look around.

"Hey," I chuckled. I glanced at her clothes. She's wearing something totally different. I turned to her, leaning against the vanity. "Am I missing something?"

"Yes," she sang like she'd been waiting for me to ask. She skipped over to me. "Throw your hair up, wear joggers, and get comfortable. It's the annual game day at Darkmond."

"Annual game day?"

She nodded, ushering me to the closet where I grabbed a pair of black joggers and a full-sleeve black cropped top that stopped right above my waist. "Darkmond has an annual game day at the beginning of every academic year. It's kind of like sports day except it's not just sports. We have all the games, people are split into teams within their major subjects, and at the end of the day, we see which subject building won the most points. Those students get a long weekend."

My eyebrows shot up.

She grinned, "Friday off."

"It sounds fun," I nodded, heading to the bathroom, leaving the door open an inch so I could hear her.

"It is," she said while I heard her walking around, taking a look at things. "Everyone gets very competitive and rude though, I'm warning you. Don't take it personally if some twat decides to say something that isn't true or something that's offensive."

It's not like people here even know anything about me, what would they say, right? "People really cross a line and go that far to win a game? I mean..." I opened the door, tossing my previous clothes on the bed for the time being. "Life's not a competition."

She turned to me, her bun bouncing. "It is at Darkmond." She shrugged, bending to tie her laces. "People will do anything to win here, stab anybody in the back. Be careful who you're friends with," she warned, "except me, obviously."

"Why? Because you're the angel here?" I chuckled.

She smiled, "Because you're my only girlfriend here. I've never had much luck with friends. I don't know what it is. People just don't like me very much. You don't hate me, at least. People think I'll snitch. But snitches get stitches. Or something like that, right?" I watched her for a minute and she laughed awkwardly. "I've been alone at Darkmond since I got here. I've gotten a taste of academic excellence. It doesn't get you anything. And it's certainly not worth losing friends over. I'd rather have a best friend than an A+ in class. You really don't have to worry about me. Should I be worried about you?"

Looking at her and realizing how much of a genuine person she was at a place where everyone else is ready to bite people in the back, I could only shake my head. "Not at all. I don't know what I'd do here without you," I laughed.
