"Hiya!"
The bad guy fell over once again as a tall, muscular ninja kicked him in the leg. His hair and headband blew upwards to the blowing wind as he took his sword off his back.
"This is the end of the line," The ninja commanded. "Now, return the money!"
The bad guy laughed, holding his arms out.
"Fine... you defeated me. But... I have one last thing to say."
The ninja rolled his eyes impatiently. "What?"
The bad guy took a deep breath before screaming, "Dadaaaaaaaaaaa!"
The ninja stared in disbelief. This was his solution? To call out to "Dada?"
"Alright, enough of this nonsense. You're going to-"
A man grabbed the ninja and picked him up, taking him out of his imaginary scenario.
"Aww... not again, Dad," the kid complained. He was actually Malachi Macrea, a boy living in Aquacorde Town. It was his 10th birthday, which is when trainers usually get their first Pokemon.
"Sorry, kid," his dad said, putting Malachi on his shoulder. "But if you hit that scarecrow anymore, we might not have anything to scare the Murkrow away. You want bread for the cake, don't you?"
Malachi cheered at the mention of the cake. What birthday is complete without the soft, frosted dessert? Unless...
"Ice cream cake!" Malachi yelled out. His dad's eyes widened in response.
"Eh... we'll see." He nervously chuckled at Malachi's enthusiasm.
They went back inside the farmhouse. Malachi jumped off his father's back and ran around the living room.
"Rescue mission underway!" He jumped on the table as his father put his jacket on. Malachi spread his arms out.
"Victim going down!" He jumped off the table. His father look over and jumped to the couch.
"Whoa now!" He grabbed a pillow and chucked it to the table, stopping right under Malachi the millisecond before he hit the floor. Malachi laughed as he bounced slightly upwards.
"Again, again!" Malachi threw the pillow back on the couch. His father, however, scratched his head.
"Uhh... sorry, Buddy. I have to go to the lab today."
"Oh... okay, I'll play with Mom! Mama!"
"She's already at the lab," his father sighed. Malachi's parents work at a Pokemon Research Facility, although Malachi's never been to it. His parents didn't tell him much about their work, and even when they did, he never really understood anything.
Malachi sat on the couch and sighed. His father put his hand on his head.
"Tell you what? Why don't you go play with your sister?"
"But all Cassie talks about is Pokemon!" Sure enough, at that moment, his sister came downstairs, spinning in a circle.
"I'm 10 now, I'm 10 now," she squealed, holding up a Torchic plushie. Cassie was only 10 seconds younger than Malachi, though they weren't as close as siblings.
"Oh, that's right! You both can go choose your Pokemon now!" He goes to the front door and opens it. "Why don't you go meet your new friends? Professor Sycamore will be at the Pokemon Center. I'd love to meet them later."
"Yay!" Cassie ran to Malachi. "Let's go, let's go!"
"But I want to play Rescue Mission!"
"Maybe your new Pokemon would like to play Rescue Mission with you," His father said as he waved and closed the door. Malachi sighed. If he knew anything about Pokemon, a lot of them were too small to play Rescue Mission with. Especially the starters.
