I sigh in relief as the door opens.
None of the lights are on, so I assume my guardian's not here. Works for me, I didn't want to have to explain this situation.
"Nice place," Milena whispers, seemingly understanding the situation I'm in.
"Why are we whispering," Jackson asks. "The lights are all off."
"The home owner could be sleeping," Robert responds. "Something about the atmosphere here tells me they're not a heavy sleeper." Well, admittedly, I have disturbed my guardian a few times with my nightmares, but how did Robert figure that out?
"Oh... wait, are we breaking in? We're not breaking in, right?"
"Technically, I let you all in," I shrug. "It may be more like letting you in to sneak out?"
Jackson pondered this for a second. "So-"
"Ignore him," Amelia butts in. "He's not great at reading scenarios anyway." Damn. "So, what do we need here?"
"Not much. Food to last for tomorrow, my Type Counter Chart, my phone, and my sword." I open the fridge. "...Dang, no travel safe food, huh?"
"There's cake," Milena says, pointing to the bottom of the fridge. I pick it up and examine it.
"Oh, right... I never did eat my birthday cake." They all look at the cake.
"How long ago was your birthday," Amelia asks.
"This was from 6 years ago."
"SIX-" They all cover their mouths and look upstairs. Despite their loud exclaims, there are no signs of movement. After a couple seconds, Robert shakes his head.
"Do you realize the amount of preservatives that would be needed for that to not have gone bad?"
I shrug. "My guardian said not to eat it. There's no mold." I take the cover off the cake and smell it. "It still smells fresh too."
"Impossible," Amelia says, grabbing a knife from the cupboard. "It at least has to be hard." She presses the knife into the cake, but it bounces off, sticking into the ceiling. We all stare at it in shock.
"...I would like to reinstate my case on the preservatives." I wasn't sure time was supposed to make a cake bouncy though, so I took a piece with my hands. Weirdly enough, it worked. I looked at the piece, then put it into my mouth.
"Hey, what are you-" Jackson started, but then watched. This was the best cake I've ever had. There was a perfect mix of icing and buttercream, and the vanilla bread melted into my mouth.
"...Good."
"Seriously?" Milena starts reaching for the cake, but I hold my hand up, then cover the cake.
"Hold on, I'll get my sword to cut it. Froakie, with me," I walk upstairs slowly with Froakie in tow. Behind me, Jackson stammers.
"W-Wait, he said... s-sword?"
Amelia's POV
Watching him go upstairs, I thought to myself:
"What is up with this kid?"
Cassie had told us many things about Malachi, but some of them I just assumed were jokes. Especially when I heard her say-
"He actually has a sword?" Jackson was rocking himself on the table, hands gripped to the edge.
"It could just be a replica," Milena assured. She's not wrong. We didn't have many uses for swords, as we fought with Pokemon. Even so, that raises a question:
