Eloise lay on her bed gazing out the window, the sun gave way to night and she still hadn't felt any less anxious after the events of the day. On the side table sat an ashtray that needed to be dumped for the second time, and a half-empty glass of white burgundy at its side.

"Who's attacking this district." was the thought that wouldn't leave Eloise's mind, but an even smaller question lingered behind it, "and why?" it asked.

For months there had been whispers of some sinister movement slowly building in the shadows. Eloise had not seen it for herself, but she could not deny she had felt tiny tenebrous moments that would cause a momentary pause and then vanish like a breeze. Both Billy and her father often washed her worries away.

"It's all in your head, you should give up those horrible tabloids." Billy would say.

"It's just our share healthy paranoia my dear girl." were often the words of her father.

But with each passing day, Eloise had become less sure. The Solomon family had all but taken over the Jewish streets and many a time had the Red Lady been spotted walking the streets in the small hours of the morning, the clicking of maroon heels letting the night know that it was being watched.

Billy entered the room quietly, leaving the bedroom door slightly ajar he hung his coat on the hanger. He watched Eloise gazing into the night like a restless soldier on his billet, waiting for the sound of the guns. Billy brought a struggling smile to his face, unsure of how long he could keep the things moving in the dark out of her knowledge. Worse now that he was brought so close to them himself.

"I've returned, Eloise." Billy called, a delicate black box in his hands wrapped in a red bow, he walked to her bedside. Setting carefully on it's edge, Billy stroked Eloise's cheek with the back of his hand.

"I've brought the chocolates as you asked," he spoke softly his voice holding hopes of approval. It was enough to make Eloise cringe.

"I'd like just once that the man didn't grovel." she thought to herself.

Reaching out Eloise took the box carefully from Billy's hands and tried her best to smile, but when that failed her she opted to plant a light kiss on his cheek. Billy grinned softly. Eloise gave a light tug at the bow ribbon on the box and it unraveled. Gracefully falling away it slipped down her leg and onto the mattress.  Billy removed the lid from the box, setting it aside.

Peering at the dark tempting chocolates in the box Eloise heaved a sigh, She sent Billy up the block to purchase them before the shop closed, and yet, "I don't think Chocolate will help me feel any better. " thought Eloise.

Billy looked from Eloise to the box as she stared, "Is something wrong?" He asked leaning towards her with worry.

"No," Eloise whispered, taking up a chocolate between her fingers. She held out her hand and grazed the sweet against his bottom lip slowly. The warmth of the room and the warmth of his skin slightly melted it. "I was just thinking, maybe chocolate isn't enough to cure the wistfulness this time," Eloise murmured. Billy watched her bewildered.
