“I didn’t get the sleep I needed,” says Yuko all of a sudden. I could see that in the bags under her eyes. Not to mention that I hadn’t gotten much sleep either.
“I know that feeling,” I say in chagrin.
“So you too were excited for today? Yay!” she exclaims.
“Ok, not that part,” I reply dryly.
In fact, it’s because my parents wouldn’t stop fighting. But I’m not saying that.
The bus arrives to the school and we get off. We run into Hiroshi and Aiko at the gate. We notice that Edward’s scooter and Alex and Sho’s bikes are already there. So we head to the Circle to see if they are there. As expected, we find Edward, Midori, Alex and Sho sitting on the bleachers.
“Where is Jessica?” asks Yuko.
“She’s doing some stuff for the student council,” replies Alex. “In fact, I’m about to go get her. Mike, come with me.”
“Me?” I respond.
“Yeah, just come, man.”
“Sure,” I reply a bit confused.
Alex leads me all the way to the Student Council’s clubroom, near our Chemistry classroom, on the second floor. When we get to the door, I ask Alex why he wanted me to go with him. He simply told me “to just wait and see”.
“Alex, man, I really don’t know what-”
Then, the clubroom opens and Jessica comes out. Behind her, the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen. A tall girl with long, wavy, auburn hair and fair skin. Jessica notices me and then throws a quick glance to Alex, followed by a slight grin. Jessica decides to present me with her friend.
“Michael,” says Jessica, “this is Melody Weiss. She’s the Student Council’s president and, our neighbor class, 5-A’s rep.”
“Hello there,” she says.
“Oh... uh...” I stutter. “Nice to hi you.”
Why?!
“I mean, nice to meet you. Yes, nice to meet you. There we go.”
Good job, me.
“Michael is new here,” says Alex. “He comes from Jaeger High.”
“Welcome to the school,” Melody says. “Jaeger High, eh? I went there on my first year.”
“Really?” I manage to ask.
“Yeah!” says Alex. “But ever since she came here, she’s been in the Student Council. Did you know she SINGLE-handedly does most of the work? Or that she is always AVAILABLE to help anyone?”
“That’s a lot of work,” I say.
“Nah, it’s fine,” she replies. “I like doing it.”
Heh, I like this girl.
“Hey,” she says, “haven’t I seen you before?”
