As fast as their legs could carry them, Sans ran through the forest, dirt and mud all over them. The fox tunnels were smaller than Sans remembered. As a result, quite a bit of dirt had gotten into the hole in San's head. It was itchy, but Sans didn't have time to empty it. They had to be faster than Cinnamon. They wouldn't make it that easy for this other Papyrus.
So they used all their accumulated knowledge about tracking and hunting to keep Cinnamon at a distance, and it worked, surprisingly enough. He has walked past Sans several times, wearing a frustrated but amused expression on his face. It warmed something in Sans’ soul to know that they weren't the only one enjoying their game of cat and mouse.
But every good game had to come to an end at some point.
It happened due to a mistake on their part. They were not paying attention and tripped over a root. In and of itself, that wouldn't have been bad, but Sans fell so stupidly that they bumped their head on the tree that belonged to it, even though it didn't seem to enlarge the hole any further. But when the world stopped turning there was a puddle of yellow magic in the snow before Sans eyes.
Where does the magic come from...?
"SANS! ARE YOU OKAY?” Cinnamon knelt next to Sans, a worried look on his face. Sans didn't like that expression. No Papyrus should have this expression.
"Heh, don't worry. I'm good. I don't see any more stars either.” Sans tried to reassure Cinnamon, but the worried expression remained.
"SANS... YOU'RE BLEEDING."
"So that's where the stain comes from..." Unconsciously, Sans rubbed their mouth as it began to tingle, only that their hand was covered in smeared yellow magic. Confused, they felt their mouth and finally found a large gap between their teeth from which the magic seemed to flow. "What?"
"YOU HAVE KNOCKED OUT A TOOTH." Confused, Sans looked up at Cinnamon, only to see Cinnamon holding a small, sharp tooth in his hand. "THERE IS ALSO A SMALL CRACK AT THE POINT. IF YOU WANT, I COULD CLOSE IT FOR YOU WITH HEALING MAGIC?"
“No no, it’s okay. Don't waste it on that.” Cinnamon didn't have to use his magic for such trivial things. Besides, who knew how much magic Cinnamon had available anyway. Sans didn't want it to be wasted on him. “Besides, it seems like you caught me. I guess I'm going with you now. "
With that, Sans seemed to have upset Cinnamon for a moment, until the larger skeleton snorted softly and picked Sans up as if they weighed nothing. And while Cinnamon was not their Papyrus, it nonetheless projected the same kind of security as their Papyrus had. And that security alone made Sans relax while Cinnamon held them. Even their fear of heights didn't hit that bad! And hey, the view wasn't too bad either.
“DO YOU WANT TO TAKE ANYTHING WITH YOU? IT IS UNLIKELY YOU WILL RETURN.” At Cinnamon's statement, Sans thought carefully. Did they need anything from here? Was there anything at all that was so important to them that they couldn't get it again? Apart from Pap's headscarf, which they were already wearing, there was actually nothing...
"Oh! There is actually something that I want to take with me! "
"IS IT MUCH? BECAUSE IF IT IS THAT WE HAVE TO FIND A BAG. "
But Sans just shook their head and grinned at Cinnamon. “No, don't worry, it's not much. Just two books.” Sans saw Cinnamon nod in satisfaction. He was probably also happy that he didn't have to carry much. Because if there had been a lot to carry, Cinnamon wouldn’t carry Sans. Then Sans would have had to walk and maybe even have to carry something themself. And if Sans was being honest they were enjoying their laziness, thank you very much.
