+++Elyse+++
I woke up to birds chirping and the sun shining harshly on my face. A small smile crept its way on to my face as I remembered yesterday's events.
Drowsily pulling my legs over the covers and on to the carpeted floor, I walked over to my en-suite bathroom half asleep. I'm not the chirpy morning type of person.
I checked my watch, which read 9.15 am - praise the lord for summer.
'I honestly have no clue why I'm still single.' I thought sarcastically as I took in my reflection in the mirror- my dark hair resembling a rats nest. I had some drool on the corner of my mouth, and I hated morning breath. What stood out however was that my blue eyes, for once looked well rested and twinkled with something I couldn't decipher. I missed everything here so much.
Walking in the direction of my closet, I pulled on some jean shorts and a loose cotton black and white striped shirt while thinking through the events of last night.
Riley's house was my second home here, and when I went to visit yesterday, everything felt so good. So normal. I smiled to myself in the mirror and grabbed for my comb. Lightly beginning to untangle the mess.
Riley opened the door and, damn, did he look good. He then proceeded to welcome me in and surprisingly didn't take me to his room. Not that I wanted to, or at least not for the reason you think I wanted him to take me in there. There was a part of me that wanted to remember how it looked. Was our fort still there? The one from last summer? Did he still have a photo frame of the two of us on his book shelf? I hoped he did, I still had mine hanging on my pin board in my dorm.
I couldn't help but wonder why he veered me into the kitchen and spontaneously started making Frilks. I don't know. Frilks is what he claims to be fruits and milk together. He just puts all the fruits in his sight into the blender and pours the entire carton of milk in there as well. Frilks. I guess it makes sense but I had to tease him, and he just had to throw strawberries my way.
My reverie ended as I made my way out of my room.
Shaking my head, with a smile on my face I realised I must have brushed through my hair 100 times. Barbie or Rapunzel or whatever would have been proud; at least now it looked presentable.
"Morning mom" I said, skipping into the kitchen.
"Good morning honey" She said with a questioning look, she definitely knew I wasn't always this chirpy.
I gave her a creepy smile and walked over to the pantry pulling out the lucky charms (I just love a healthy breakfast -not) pouring myself a bowl and quickly devouring it.
My dad was sitting at the breakfast table with a coffee in hand, raising an eyebrow at me to which I just shot an innocent smile.
Pecking both my parents on the cheek I started toward the front door, calling out behind me that I was going to take a walk around the park. The house was quiet without Natalie being there.
Heading out through my front lawn and onto the path I took in the summer weather with glee. The weather back in where Brookwell High was never quite this lovely, you always had to wear those god-awful school uniforms clad with knee high socks and a coat. I practically skipped to the park knowing the route by heart.
Making it to the corner of the street turning right I spotted the cute little coffee shop which had the best coffee ever- at least I thought so. Nudging the door open with my foot I was immediately hit by the strong scent of freshly brewed coffee and vanilla. I loved this place, it almost beats the tree house.
This place basically screamed I'M CUTE BUY A COFFEE! And so I did.
"One latte, extra milk, please." I told the barista who quickly poured my order in a take away cup. Giving a nod and paying, I make my exit and head in the direction of the park.
Finally arriving, I spotted a bench under a tree that a girl around my age seemed to be texting on a few meters away from me. I decided to go take a seat. As I began to approach the bench, the girl looked up at me and I immediately recognised her.
Rosa.
I stared dumbfounded at the girl in front of me, slowly continuing my way to her. Hesitating with every step.
"W-what are you doing here?" I asked stuttering a bit.
"Elyse," she whispered looking down onto her lap, "hey," she suddenly looks up at me, a bright smile on her face.
She shifted to get up from the bench and awkwardly took me into a hug. I had mixed feelings about this, not knowing what to think, I hesitantly hugged her back.
