Chapter 4 - Shadow POV
I sat at my favourite spot on the seashore, contemplating my next move now that the adults were growing suspicious of my parentage. I knew I needed to confide in someone I could trust, but who could I turn to? Just then, I heard my name being called, and I turned to see Eden approaching.
"Hey, what are you up to?" he asked.
"Just thinking," I replied, as he sat down beside me.
As I sat there with him, I couldn't help but notice his handsome features, but I quickly pushed those thoughts aside. Instead, I mustered up the courage to confide in him.
"Eden, there's something I need to tell you," I began. "But first, can I trust you?"
"Of course," he assured me.
I took a deep breath and revealed the truth about my hybrid heritage, explaining how I wanted to learn about humans and be a protector rather than a destroyer.
Eden gasped. I continued to explain, " I'm not like the other hybrids 75% of me is a Jaeger. The rest part of me is kaiju blood, and because of that, I can control them according to my will." With a deep breath, Shadow continued, "My mother was a kaiju. her name was Hecate."
Eden's eyes widened in surprise as he heard my mother's name. He exclaimed, "Hecate?! Her name sounds familiar. Isn't she like the queen of kaiju or something? It's reported that she is the most dangerous around." He paused for a moment, processing the information. Then he added, "But, it doesn't matter. The real question is, why are you here? Who is your father?"
When he asked about my father, I hesitated, feeling ashamed that he was my father. But with a heavy heart, I told him the truth.
On hearing his name, Eden's eyes widened in shock and disbelief. "Obsidian Fury! The notorious Jaeger hunter?" he repeated in disbelief. "The one who caused so much destruction and chaos?" he added, almost as an afterthought. Eden seemed unable to process the fact that Shadow's father was the same Jaeger hunter who had caused so much damage and loss of life in the past.
Shadow could sense the unease and tension in Eden's voice. "Yes, that's him," Shadow replied, unable to hide the shame in his voice. "But I'm not like him, Eden. I want to make things right. I want to be a protector, not a destroyer," he added, hoping that his friend would believe him.
Eden nodded slowly, still trying to come to terms with the revelation. "I believe you, Shadow. But you have to be careful. There are still people who are afraid of him, and they might not be as understanding as I am," he cautioned.
Shadow knew that Eden was right. She couldn't afford to let her guard down, especially with so much at stake. But for now, she was just glad that she had someone she could trust and confide in.
