"Scott?" Elise asks as she opens the front door. "Dexter isn't here right now. He's with Malia." Elise tells the boy as Scott nods looking down at a bag. "I know. We're hanging out tonight for his birthday." Scott tells her.
Elise watches with a careful eye as the true alpha in front of her starts a mental conversation with himself. "I actually wanted to give this to you." Scott hands the bag, "For Zoe." Elise sighs as she grabs the bag looking at the boy.
"Scott,"
"I know I'm not your favorite person, Mrs. Klein but your daughter deserves this gift and I can't let it sit in my room or have it go to waste." Scott tells her as he takes a step back. Elise gives the boy a small smile.
"I'll make sure she gets it. Get home safe and tell your mom hello for me." Scott gives Elise a small wave before he jumps on his bike and heads off. Elise watches him drive away before she shuts the door.
Her curiosity peaks as she reaches into the bag and pulls out the Alice In Wonderland book. She gasps as she drops it back in the bag. "Ellie?" Elijah calls out as he walks into the room. "Everything okay?"
Elise nods as she holds the bag close to her. "I'm just really exhausted.Excuse me."
Elise sighs as she sits on the bed with the book in her hand. She remembers giving Zoe this book just a year before she left them with Frank. Over the summer she asked Dexter about it and he said that Zoe carried it everywhere until it got ruined.
"She was still your Cheshire, mom."
A knock on the door brought Elise out of her thoughts as she quickly stuffed the book back in the box, closing it. "Mom?" Elise sighed as Dexter walked into her room.
"Hey, baby." She said walking over to him. "You're home late." Dexter sighed as he took a seat on his mom's bed and laid down. "Yeah, sorry. I had to make sure Lydia was okay." Dexter muttered as Elise chuckled.
"So when is the wedding?" Elise teased as Dexter groaned. "I have a girlfriend." Dexter said sitting straight up, "Doesn't mean that I can't tease you about your old crush. I do like Malia. But why do I fear something else is on your mind?" Elise asks as she takes a seat next to him, running her hands through his hair.
