Jesla Echo's POV

"First, why do you want to join the Cadets?" Levi-heichou questions turning his eyes on me again.

Oh-shoot-oh-shoot-oh-shoot-oh-shoot. I should've prepared better for this question...

I have to answer quickly, but what do I say? I'm joining because I can't handle life and want adventure to escape it, but I can't tell them that!  "M-my ultimate goal is to join the Scouts regimen. I want to fight back against the Titans, and see beyond the walls. I don't want to live my whole life never having even tried to leave them." I put a determined look on my face, hopefully, they find that reason adequate. My nerves rise as I wait for a response.

"Tch, classic," He responds, turning back around, but mumbles, "but not bad."

I exhale, not the best response, but not the worst, he didn't necessarily indicate that I cannot join.

"More like 'tch, Eren Jaeger.'" Hanji says, doing a dramatic reenactment of Levi's voice and mannerisms, then chuckles. "I've heard him pose very similar ideals. Dramatically, with scary conviction, of course." She adds gesturing to the brown-haired boy near me.

"Huh?" I say looking nervously at the boy near me, his striking teal eyes lock with mine. Blush heats my face rapidly. I avert my eyes only for them to latch onto Armin's. How did I end up in a wagon with two hot boys?? And Mikasa is also really-shut up thoughts. I mentally bonk myself in the head.

"That would be giving the brat too much credit," Levi responds.

Eren makes a slight face, then turns to me and smiles. Something about his smile is unique... intense, like behind it hides a manic determination about something... "Welcome to the 104th Cadet corps." He puts a hand on my shoulder making my heart do flips.

"Thanks." I manage to say, then look around directionlessly to avoid staring into any more intense eyes, at least for a few minutes. My sights land on the sky, the clouds that were stringy and sparse, have gathered together into a mystical blanket of grey.

Not long after, a few drops cool my face, then more, transforming into a total downpour. I breathe in deeply. Armin, as well as everyone else, is pulling his soft cloak over his blonde head, casting a curious shadow over his eyes. Mikasa and Eren both spread their cloaks sheltering the coal.

"Oh, Jesla you don't have a cloak, do you want to... huddle undermine?" Armin offers, and I'd say he's blushing but between the cloak, raindrops running into my eyes, and wind whipping his hair delicately into his face, I would never be so presumptuous.

I know I'm blushing though.

''I don't mind the rain...'' I'm sure that sounds like a bluff to be polite, but it's true I really don't mind the rain, I like it a lot in fact. For some reason, it exhilarates and soothes me. But I also wouldn't mind being under a cloak with a cute boy... I swallow nothing as my face heats more. ''But you know what, sure, th-thank you, Armin.'' I scoot over and duck as he lifts one side of his cloak over me. My heart rate quickens, my head is against his shoulder, our bodies pressed together, it's warm and quiet under here. The only disturbance is the occasional bump in the road or lightning... Lightning snaps towards the ground nearby, the flash cutting through the dark of the cloak. I inhale sharply, lightning is so awesome, but it also brings back memories. I was always curious about the outer walls, for some reason I found the farther out the more intrigued I was, I wondered about the pockets on the edge of the edge, they were closest to the outside. It always baffled me that outside those walls there were no more walls... So I would often sneak down there with my friend. I simply found more city but it was still somewhat different, I think the idea of it paired with the thrill of sneaking off was what kept me coming back. Until one day I witnessed the biggest lightning strike of my life. And it wasn't a lightning strike at all, but the signal of death marching into the walls in the form of horrifying Titans. It was the most exciting and terrifying thing I had ever experienced and... I shouldn't go back there, I shouldn't relive it... I clench my fist to my chest and avert my mind.
