Esme's POV
It's been ten weeks since school ended for another year. No word yet from Ron about the Quidditch World Cup. Mum and I went on a week long cruise. It was great. When we got back I was invited over to spend a weekend at Hermione's. We managed to get through all our homework for the holidays in one weekend. But we got Harry a birthday gift together and sent it to him. Along with some food.
The rest of summer has been pretty dale. Anyway it's August the seventeenth. Hermione is at my house right now. She's spending a few days here while her parents went on a business trip. We're relaxing in the lounge room before breakfast reading when there's a knock at the door. Mum went to answer it.
"So any idea why we need dress robes this year?" Hermione asks me.
"No idea what they are" I tell her.
"Their formal wear for witches and wizards. Like a ball gown or tuxe" she states.
"Strange, maybe there'll be a ball" I say. "I'll show you my dresses, mum gets me ball gowns every year. Encase I ever need them" I state.
"Sure" she says as my mum appears.
"Who was at the door?" I ask her curious.
"The post man" she states and we frown at her. "He delivered this letter" she says handing it to me. Hermione and I look at it. Then giggle. It was covered in stamps. Only a small section free for the address. "Yes very amusing honey, please read it" she tells me.
I open it and read it squealing. "It's from Mrs Weasley. We've been invited to the world cup" I tell Hermione.
"That's great, I'll have to call my parents and see if I can go" she states. She left to go use the phone.
"They say we can stay the rest of the summer" I add.
"You might have to" mum tells me sheepishly.
"Why?" I ask her.
"I've been called away for a business trip this weekend. I don't know how long I'll be gone" she states.
"You promised no business this summer" I say pouting.
"I know honey, I'm sorry" she tells me sincerely. "When will you be leaving?" she asks me.
"Mrs Weasley will be collecting us tomorrow" I state. "I'll write her a reply" I add. Hermione returns saying she can go and her parents were fine with her spending the rest of the holidays at the Burrow.
"Of course honey, I'll go help Diana finish making breakfast" she states before heading or the kitchen. Hermione and I go to my room. I tell her to look at my dresses and write a letter to the Weasleys. Letting them know Hermione is with me and we're both allowed to go to the world cup. And stay the rest of the summer. I send it wit Odette.
Before joining Hermione in my walk in robe. I see her admiring a periwinkle blue gown. "You can have it if you want" I tell her.
"Really?" she asks.
"Yes, but you have to help me find one" I tell her. We start to search for one. We went through a few dresses before settling on a purple strapless galaxy ball gown. We put the chosen dresses into our trunks. We finish packing them before mum calls us down for breakfast. Which turned out to be pancakes.
After breakfast Hermione and I helped clean up. Before I gave her french lessons. Before we go to the park with Crookshanks and Minette. Who climb a tree. "We still going swimming later?" Hermione asks me.
"Of course" I tell her smiling. I notice Minette climb a tree. "Minette leave those birds alone" I say and she comes back down.
"I thought she was friendly?" Hermione says confused.
"She is, but the birds don't know that. I don't want her getting hurt" I tell her. "So any boys catch your eye?" I ask her and she blushes.
"Esme" she says.
"We're nearly fourteen" I remind her.
"Fine, has anyone caught your eye?" she asks me.
"Maybe someone" I say playing with my magpie pendant I got in my second year.
"Isn't that the pendant you got from one of your secret admirers in our second year?" she asks me.
"Yes" I say.
"Do you even know who it was?" she asks.
"No, but maybe he'll ask me out if there is a ball" I say longingly.
"You are so smitten" she says giggling. "As for your earlier question, I don't think so. Most of the guys in our year are very immature and I've never really paid attention to any of the older boys" she states.
"Well maybe someone will catch your eye this year" I tell her.
"Not likely" she states and looks at her watch. "We should get back to your place or we'll be late for lunch" she states. I agree and we call our cats back. I lead the way home. We arrive to see sandwiches waiting and sit down enjoying them. Before going to change so that we can go for a swim in my pool.
"So who will you be rooting for a the cup?" I ask her.
"Ireland, you?" she asks.
"Bulgaria" I say sheepishly.
"Don't worry, Harry and Ron are rooting for them" she tells me. "I'm not a huge quidditch fan, but it should be good" she states.
"Same, but we've never seen quidditch on this scale. It's going to be great" I tell her. She agrees. The rest of the day was great. We go to bed early after dinner. Not wanting to sleep in late tomorrow.
