Magical Awareness. That's one of the powers Agatha wishes she didn't have.

Sure, being able to sense magic that isn't her own is great, but being aware of the things going on around her is the least pretty part.

Before, she didn't mind getting ahead of events before they even happened. It was even fun knowing when a car alarm was about to go off, as well as when there was going to be a blackout in the neighborhood, or events like the weather, sometimes.

But now, Agatha can sense something different, something of a larger dimension approaching, which can happen at any moment. She has no idea why it's affecting her so much but she's no longer able to sleep properly at night.

Because of that, when you roll over in bed, seeking the warmth of another body, there's nothing but a cold, empty space. Rubbing your sleepy eyes, you check the time on your nightstand clock. 2:15 a.m.

After getting out of bed and putting on your slippers, you leave the room in search of your girlfriend.

You're not surprised that Agatha wasn't in bed, sleeping next to you. She started dealing with some insomnia several weeks ago. You two have been together for almost seven years and she never had sleep problems; quite the contrary, sleeping is her favorite thing to do.

You thought it was due to stress caused by work and that it would disappear as the days go by. But her condition has only worsened, and you've noticed that Agatha seems to be in a constant state of anxiety.

It's as if something is overwhelming her mind, slowly consuming her.

But no matter how hard you tried to talk to her about it, try to find other possible underlying personal causes, she would always smile at you and tell you that everything is fine.

But if everything is fine, why does she take refuge in the living room in the middle of the night and shed a few tears? You frown, not just confused but worried. Even though she recovers quickly, as if forcing herself to stay strong, the tired sigh she releases twists your heart.

Agatha looks so exhausted, and you're afraid it's not just due to lack of sleep. You wish she would tell you, because you're more than willing to listen, support her or help her in whatever way—you just wish she would let you.

When you walk into the living room, she looks up and immediately offers you a tiny smile.

"You should be sleeping, hon." She says softly.

"You too." You say back, staying a few feet from the couch. "I'm worried, Aggs. Why don't you tell me what's going on? You can trust me."

"I know, honey, but I'm fine."

"Are you?" Your girlfriend maintains eye contact with you, in silence.

Her eyes no longer possess their characteristic radiant glow but something different. Sadness? Fear? It's hard to tell.

"Tell me..." You whisper this time, softly. "I wanna help you, Aggs."

Agatha averts her gaze for a moment, wishing it were that simple. Because there's nothing else she wants but to rip this horrible feeling from her chest and not have to deal with it ever again. She hates being overwhelmed with fear; fear of not being able to protect yourself in case something bad happens. And it will happen.

But what? When? Why? Why now, when her life is so damn peaceful and perfect with you by her side?

"Aggs..."

Her thoughts dissolve with the sound of your voice. There's a dull expression on her face as she seems to be hesitant about something. Eventually Agatha offers you her hand, almost pleading with her eyes to please take it. So you do it.

Once sitting next to her, you open your arms and she snuggles against your body, resting her head on your shoulder. You hug her tightly.

"It's true, I'm not fine..." She admits in a whisper after a couple of minutes of absolute silence. "But I will be soon."

"Sure you don't want to talk about it?"

"No, not really." Agatha minimally breaks the hug to look you in the eyes. She smiles when you stroke her hair and then her cheek.

"I love you." You remind her in case she needs to hear it. And so that she never forgets it. "Too much."

"I love you too, sweetheart." She places a warm kiss on your lips, catching your smile. After that, she rests her head back on your shoulder, hugging you around the neck. "Stay close to me, okay? I need you."

Agatha needs to have you close to protect you, because if a terrible event is about to happen, she cannot lose you. It would hurt too much, and even thinking of that possibility shatters her heart.

No, she won't allow it. She will be around you at all times. She will protect you using all necessary means, even if it means that she must reveal her magic and you won't see her again as before, or won't forgive the fact she hid such a great important part of her identity for so many years.

"You promise, honey?"

"Of course I promise." You tell her. "I will always be with you, Aggs."

She closes her eyes, enjoying the warmth of your body that now surrounds her with so much love.

She would be completely lost without you, completely alone. And she's been alone for so long... She doesn't want to feel how loneliness feels ever again.
