Asking for permission

Night time is upon us. Dinner time it is. My mom calls me and my dad for dinner. She prepared my favorite. Carbonara with shrimp and garlic bread. I didn't really expect mom to prepare something like this today. Shrimp was steamy and freshly cooked. The Carbonara was creamy and had a pinched of salt in it. The Garlic bread was fantastic. It had some taste of butter and had a bit of sweet and sour flavor in it. I don't know how my mom manages to cook such remarkable dishes like this but I'm glad she does. My dad heard that the event is near, about 2 weeks from today. In my head I wanted to ask so desperately to my mom and dad to allow me to join it but I already know how it'll go. My inner conscious was talking with me. "Wouldn't it be better if you gave a shot instead of not? It's better than now than never LEX" it whispered repeatedly the whole dinner. Mom noticed that my mind looked foggy and she suspected that I wanted to tell her something. "Hey Lexi, are you hiding something from me and your dad?". "OH NO HOW DID SHE KNOW, THAT ISN'T PART OF HER POWER"

My consciences were freaking out. My hands were sweaty and my legs were shaking. I took a deep breath and told them. " Mom, dad I want to join the event." My mom looked quiet upset and my dad seemed like he had no idea what was going on. After 2 minutes of silence. My mom broke the silence. "Sure." My mom calmly said. "I know but you should give me a chance- wait what...? You said sure, AM I DREAMING?" I said without thinking. I assumed that my parents would turn down my proposal but I was wrong. I was astounded that mom said sure. "Why?" I asked. "We noticed that you've been working hard for this moment in your entire life, we trust you and we know that you can do it..." my mom replied with a shaking voice. I know that the other situation I'd face if I didn't survive is death. Yes, death is an intimidating opponent but I always felt in me that I could fight it and I know that I'd win. As Lexi continuous to have dinner with her family she felt a slight feeling of doubt deep inside her. When dinner was over Lexi started to overthink about the event. "Can I really do this? Will I survive?" were the questions she kept asking herself. She tried to forget it and just start preparing for the event.
