Event of the year

The Event

As the sun rose, Lex was excited and nervous for the event. She prepared everything she needed. "Water check, seeds check what else do I need?" as Lex talks to herself. "Good morning honey! I think you should bring your grandpa's bat. It's heavy and great for combat or defense" dad said as he saw me getting ready. As I went downstairs with my bag, mom was waiting for me to eat breakfast. "Lex, I wish you good luck, and please come home safely" mom told me with a warm smile. My mom used her power on me and tried taking a peek at my future, either if I'm still alive or not. "Oh my god..." my mom said with a surprised face. "Mom what is it? Am I dead in the future??" I asked repeatedly, but not a single word from her. I think that mom didn't want to tell me because it might affect my performance when it was time for me to go to the event. All she had to say to me was good luck with a tight hug.

Everyone was in the town was excited for the event. It was held in the middle of our town where a huge, tall, white building is in front of us. Inside that white building is where all the five stages will occur. "All contestants, kindly step forward to the building in front of you. Thank you and may the best win" A feminine voice announced to us. My heart was beating like a drum. I was so nervous yet excited that I'm finally here. As I stepped in the building, all I could see were plane white walls, floors and ceilings, also the people that joined.

I saw my friend from school, and I wasglad she was there. When I called out her name, she looked at me as if we werestrangers to each other. "Strange, maybe she doesn't recognize me?"Lex said to herself. At the very start, the feminine voice was back again toannounce something. "Welcome, everyone! This event this year will consistof 5 stages, and in the beginning of each stage, you will get to pick only 1item suitable for helping you achieve victory. There will be cameras everywherein each stage where the people outside of this building can see everythingthat's going on inside here. You are not allowed to kill, but you may sabotageother contestants in this event. For the 1st stage, it shall becalled "The Mines." Mines will be scattered all over the flat, largeand wide place. You are allowed to use your powers to boost yourselves. Thefirst 90 people to be able to cross the mine will pass, and the ten will beeliminated." The feminine voice announced. "Contestants, you may nowpick your item," she added. As we entered the item room, everything thatwe could use was there. I was shocked, and I was confused if what item I shouldpick. In the end, I ended up taking a whole box of smoke bombs. I can throw itat an area where an enormous number of people are located there and make theirvision blurry so they won't be able to see. "Contestants, get ready for our 1st stage. Again, I wish you all good luck" the feminine voice said.

In another character's perspective

Hey! I'm Jake. Just Jake. I'm one of the contestants at the event. If you're wondering what my power is, I don't have one. I'm one of the 2% in the world with no powers. Everyone around me had low expectations since I have no powers. Although, I am great at thinking of solutions or strategies despite being powerless. Did I mention I'm an orphan? In this 1st stage, I have a terrific plan. I hope I execute it the way I planned it because if I don't, well, I'll surely be eliminated
