chapter 2- gate

she had plodded through a couple of felids and was coming up to the next one. at this point her clothes were so sodden and itchy that she felt like she was getting a rash. she was on the last feild and in the near distance. the gate was getting nearer with every step. each one taking longer. eventually, she put a soft delicate shaking hand on the weathered gate. the gate was painted red years ago but was so faded only streaks of colour remind. with her hand on the gate she paused for a moment. the gate felt splintered and abrasive.it smelled like the wet wood a boat would. she aggressively pulled her hand away from the gate as a splinter pierced her skin. as she let out a small cry of pain she removed the splinter from her palm and dropped it on the grass. she glided her hand to the latch. it was cold and slippery due to the raindrops splashing on the dull silver latch. she hesitantly opened the gate. tears now adding to the rain on her face. her lips quiver and her face distraught with pain. she clicked the lock closed on the other side of it.
