SEVEN IN the morning. I need to wake up because I need to prepare my husband and daughter's breakfast. When I get out of bed,

I saw Uno standing at the door of our room. I just greeted him good morning and touched his head and already headed to the kitchen. So surprised that he followed. He had never done that before. It gives me the idea that he is hungry. I put some of his dog food in there. While I was preparing his food, I saw him sitting and patiently waiting for it.

What a change...

He usually grabs his food hungrily every meal, but this time it is different. He just waits. I watched him until he finished it. After that, he just sits again. When I move, he moves. What on earth is happening to this dog? Is he still hungry or what? I put another bite of his dog food but he didn't eat it. I bring him water but he never drinks.

It is getting late, I need to get ready for breakfast.

By the time that I'm preparing everything, he just stays with me and keeps on following me. We even bumped into each other. I think he already likes me.
I get it can maybe if he just can talk he will say to me that he is thanking me for what I have done last night or maybe about the second chance that I gave him. Who knows? Nobody but him.

IT'S NOON...

I need to pick up my daughter from school. And still, he follows and observes what I'm doing. I went out to close the door but he went out too. I can't bring him there. I keep on pushing him inside but he is so heavy that I cant. I screamed at him. Pushed him hard and immediately locked the door from the outside. I wonder what's got into him with that sudden change of mood. I can hear him scratching the door and trying to get out. I just went and left him.

When I got back, everything was quiet. I opened the door. There he is, standing in front of me. I saw his smiling eyes again. And then again, he follows. I can see that he is enjoying us now. I'm happy to see Uno like that.

Several days and almost a month passed.

Same old scene every day. But there are some changes. Of course, he doesn't play with things anymore, he doesn't poop inside the house anymore, he waits for his food and most of all, he never touches muning anymore. I can still remember how he played with the kittens. While muning is having a kitty, Uno is watching her. And when muning is out, he always gets the kitties and starts licking them until they get wet with Unos sticky saliva.

He always wanted the kitties to walk and roll around. He never hurt them.By myself, I can tell that he has changed a lot. But one day when I went out and got back home, I saw the kitties and they were all dead. But there is no sign of brutal killing. They are all just wet. I found one inside a pale of water, the kitty drowned. Maybe Uno tossed it and then it landed there. The other one is flat. Maybe he danced into it til death.

I feel sorry about the kitties, but when I look at Uno and ask him why, he just smiles his eyes at me. I didn't hurt him for killing the kittens, even if I beat him over again, they won't ressurect,so--- I moved on...

I just think that he just got carried away.

Enough of the flashback.

Now I can tell that he is growing up. He is one heck of a caring dog now. I can see by the way he obeys me.

Everything in him changed, even the way he follows me. Even when I am taking a bath, he always knocks on my door and waits for me to get out. When I get out of the house, all he does is follow me. He never walked in front of me, he was not even the first one. He is always after me. Where I go he is just after me. Sometimes people get scared, especially when they see him.

Uno doesn't bark. He just sniffs and observes. You can't even get inside the house without him sniffing you. And after he sniffs, he gets back to me and follows me again. That's why I came up with the nickname bodyguard. I call him my bodyguard. My neighbors call him that too. It's because he is really like a bodyguard, he always guards me.

Us...

The neighbors also start to know him and get along with him.

One night, our friends came to visit us. We had a drink and some chatting. Of course, Uno is like a bomb-sniffing dog. He observed and followed everyone who made a movement. My friends told me why my dog is like that. Because Uno keeps on sniffing all of their stuff. It seems that there is something in it. And whenever they move, he moves and keeps on following them. It's uncomfortable for them, so I decided to put him inside the room and tell him to stay there with my kids.

He followed. He never really disobeyed.

I saw him go up to the bed and lay there with his head hanging down at the edge. What a good dog. Uno sometimes sleeps with us, he even has his pillow. I always say to him, good dog, whenever he does something good and then give him a kiss.

One of my girlfriends went to see my kids. She saw my daughter almost at the edge of the bed and any moment she could fall. She said that she tried to get her back up in bed. Seeing that Uno was asleep, she tried to get in. She said that while she was beginning to hold her, my dog suddenly got up and gave her an angry look and started to growl.

She said that she got scared because Uno never stops growling while she is still inside the room and near my daughter. She said that she just stepped back slowly and when she reached the door my dog put his head on top of my daughter's body and stopped growling, but still looked at her.

Uno is a very protective bodyguard.

He is not the old one before who did not care at all.
He always stayed with us and made sure that nobody would get hurt. He also doesn't like anybody touching me either.

There was a time when I was having a chat outside with a friend when, suddenly, my friend just slapped my arms for a joke. Uno just came out of nowhere and attacked her legs. Maybe he thinks that I'm up to something. I too was shocked by what he did, I been busy talking so I didn't see him dash. Fortunately, there was no serious damage, he just put a mark of his wet nose. My friends face turned pale, so scared. And so I talked to Uno and gave him a slight angry touch of Mama's hand.

He scared my friend. He is always like that. That nobody almost visited me. That I need to close all windows and doors before they come close when someone call my name. But I love the way he overprotected us. But still, sometimes the brutal side of him comes out, especially when you say "shoo!" I didn't train him for that shoo thing. It just happens that whenever I'm saying that, I'm always chasing something away.

Uno is an observer.

He analyzes things seriously so that by his next move he knows what to do. Uno is such a very clever dog. And he is such a good friend of mine. I prefer calling him a friend to a pet.

Uno is part of the family for me. I love him so much that I can't take my eyes off from him. And so does he.

My bodyguard. Our bodyguard.
