III - You Can Be A Hero

Izuku walked towards he and his mother's apartment. The heroes at the scene of the attack were displeased with his actions and he got in trouble by them. All Might was surrounded by the press, Bakugou was praised by the same heroes for his bravery, and continued to be when Izuku was finally allowed to leave.

"Deku!" A voice called out from behind, accompanied by fast footsteps.

Izuku turned around and saw Bakugou running towards him.

"Listen," He said after catching his breath. "I would never ask for a weakling like you to help me. Don't think you can look down on me, got that!" His fists were clenched as they lay by his sides.

"I was fine on my own, you're just a quirkless failure! You didn't help me, you did nothing." He turned around and hunched his back as he walked back the way he came.

Deku watched as Kaachan got further away. He had gotten used to his personality and harsh words over the many years he had known him, so it didn't bother him too much. In fact, he couldn't help but agree with the spiky haired boy. He really didn't do anything to help, in his eyes at least.

"I am here!" All Might dashed out of an alley saying his catchphrase, causing Izuku to yelp as the large man came out of nowhere.

"AHH! All Might! Where did you come from! How did you get away from the reporters?"

"Ah ha ha ha! Because I am All Might! I stand for-" The hero was cut off as he was suddenly forced to revert to his skinny form, causing blood to shoot up from his mouth and Izuku to scream.

After a couple coughs, All Might continued.

"Young man, I came here to thank you. If it hadn't been for you, I wouldn't have acted back there."

Izuku tried to brush off the praise, blaming himself for causing All Might to use up his energy, but the hero continued.

"After you had told me your story, about how you had no power, and when I saw a timid quirkless boy run in to try and save a life, you inspired me."

"There are stories about every hero, how they became great. In almost every case, their bodies moved before their mind could think. And today... That's what happened to you."

Izuku had started crying by this point, and he fell down to his knees.

"Young man, you too can become a hero."

What Izuku wanted to hear the most over anything in his life, after years of being told he couldn't. The man he admired the most finally told him that he could.

"I deem you worthy of inheriting my power."

Y/N had wanted to talk with Izuku right after the villain was defeated, but the heroes forced him and the other bystanders to clear the area. Reluctantly he started walking home. He need to talk with Izuku, this wasn't something he could just ignore and talk about later. This was big! He could've been hurt badly, or even killed! So he opted to hide not far away and wait for the heroes to leave. When they finally did, Izuku had already left.

"What about Y/N? Can he still be a hero too?" Izuku nervously asked after All Might explained their future together.

"Who's Y/N? A friend of yours I'm guessing?"

"Yeah, we've been friends since we were little kids. We've both had the same dream for as long as we can remember, and that's to be the best heroes we can be."

"He's quirkless, isn't he?"

Izuku was quiet. Looking at the ground, he nodded his head, knowing what All Might's response would be.

The hero sighed. "Remember what I said back on the roof?"

"I know, it's just, it's all he's ever wanted. We were going to train and try out for UA together, and I don't know how I could ever tell him not too. It would crush him, especially coming from me..."

"Tell you what. I'll talk to him myself, try and steer him in another direction. The rest will be up to you though, keeping things a secret and all."

"Really? Still, I'd feel terrible leaving him behind like that..."

"Hey, remember. It's not that I don't think your friend would make a great hero, he's probably a lot like you. But it's for his own safety. He'll just get hurt without a power."

Izuku knew what he was saying, and understood. It had to be this way.

"Alright." He solemnly said.

"Well I better be off. I've got a lot to do." All Might then buffed up.

"Take care, young Midoriya!" He said before taking off into the sky.

Izuku would have to tell All Might what Y/N looked like later, and maybe where he lived. It would feel like selling him out. Even coming from All Might the news would devastate Y/N, just like it did Izuku just a short time ago. Y/N led a sadder life than himself as well, not even having a kind mother to give him affection.

"Izuku!" A voice snapped the boy out of his thoughts. Looking up, he saw Y/N running towards him.

"Oh, hi there Y/N." He said, internally panicking. What if he saw him with All Might?!

"Are you okay?"

"Oh, yeah, of course, I'm fine!"

"That's good. I'm sorry I didn't help you, that must have been pretty scary running in on your own."

"Don't feel bad. Really, it's all good." Izuku forced a reassuring smile.

"You did great though. I was in the crowd, and I saw you run by me. You scared me, but that was pretty brave what you did. I guess you're already one step ahead of me to becoming a hero!" Y/N joked.

"Heh, yeah." Izuku sadly played along.
