Evan stepped into the large room, seeing the staircase leading up to the altar where a golden sphere resides. Quickly heading up the stairs he reaches the top to gaze at the treasure in all its beauty. He then takes out another sphere, slowly reaching over. He quickly swapped the sphere's places, taking the golden one and leaving the fake in its place; the ground began to rumble.
Of course that didn't work, he quickly descended the stairs as the room began to collapse.
Evan raced for the exit, seeing the light in sight as everything around him began to crumble. Throwing himself forward he made it out, the entryway crumbling behind him. Still laying on the ground, a pair of boots entered his field of vision.
"Nice work superman," his friend Tyler helped him to his feet, "We got out when we heard you triggering the trap that the wall specifically warned all trespassers about."
"Yeah, well," Evan grinned, "I got our treasure, and you got our memories. The archaeologists can dig up this place later when they find it."
"Uh, yeah, about that, some people already came."
"What?"
Tyler led Evan back to camp, and Evan spotted a rather nice looking jeep parked next to his tent, and a man in business attire standing there.
"Evan Fong," the man walked up and shook his hand, "An honor to meet you; I'm Francis Que, owner of Big Corp, and I have been searching for you."
"And what for, may I ask?," Evan questioned, pulling his hand away.
"I am looking to hire you on a once in a lifetime expedition to find a lost city."
Evan let out a chuckle, tossing the golden sphere to Tyler before walking to a larger tent where his research was laid out. The company owner followed right behind him, showing that he meant business.
"I don't know if you know this," Evan explained, "But I already explored every single lost city there is; every mystery given, I solved it."
"Ah, except for one," Mr. Que said matter of fact.
"Oh yeah? Which one?"
"The mystery of The Lost City of Atlantis."
Evan frowned; that city had always been a dream to find, but everyone he asked who might have had information on it only told him it was a legend, leading him to dead ends.
"I see I have caught your attention," Mr. Que continued, "My researchers have worked hard over the years, and have pinpointed an exact location on where the sunken city is. I have come to hire you to be the one to explore and uncover its secrets. I will even pay you a good amount too. So what do you say, hm? Uncover this legend of finds?"
Evan thought about it.
"Evan you can't be serious," Tyler said, watching his friend pack up when they arrived back at their apartment, "We're talking about a city that is basically a myth."
"I can't pass this up Tyler," Evan shook his head, "I have to take this chance. All my life I have been searching for this, and now, I may finally lay my eyes upon it."
Tyler let out a sigh.
"...Alright, fine," Tyler said, "But you better get me something nice in return for pet sitting."
Evan smiled, causing Tyler to smile back. Evan caught a taxi, heading straight for the airport where he was driven out onto the runway to a private jet.
"Ah, Evan my boy, you made it," Mr. Que got up from his seat to greet Evan, "Please, come take a seat."
Evan noticed someone sitting in one of the other seats; he had short dark-brown hair, freckles dotting across their upper cheeks and nose bridge, long eyelashes covering ocean-blue eyes, and porcelaine toned skin. He looked up from his phone to look at him, and Evan could almost see a curiosity flash across his eyes.
"This is Dr. Jonathan Denis," Mr. Que gave an introduction, "He is our leading ocean researcher in this operation."
"Hello," Jonathan greeted, his voice cool and smooth.
"Hi," Evan smirked.
Making it to their destination, Evan could see the huge boat when they drove up to it.
"Unfortunately, due to my business duties, I will not be going on this expedition with you two," Mr. Que explained, "But I do expect you two to get along as you both will be sharing a room on board this ship."
Evan exchanged looks with Jonathan, but the ocean researcher just rolled his eyes and walked off to get aboard the ship.
"Do forgive Jonathan's behavior," Mr. Que said quietly, "Very introverted, but given the chance to warm up, I'm sure you two will become fast friends."
Evan gave a curt nod; once aboard and finding his room, he already spotted Jonathan all settled in.
"So, roomie," Evan spoke casually, "I think-"
"I personally think that you should be well aware not to get in the way of my research," Jonathan interrupted him, "I may not believe this so-called city exists, but my boss does; he hired you only because of your "expertise" of lost cities. In the end, everyone is expendable."
Evan arched a brow at the sudden hostility. Jonathan placed on a lab coat, grabbing a few notebooks, a clipboard, and a pencil.
"Keep your shit on your side of the room," was the last thing the brunette said before leaving.
Evan gave a quiet snarl.
Ass, he tossed his backpack on the bed.
Evan went up to get some fresh air, looking out onto the vast and mysterious ocean.
