Jonathan slowly opened his eyes, seeing the sun peeking in through the porthole window and lighting up the room a tad bit. Sitting up, he stretched and looked over at Evan's bed; he wasn't there. He frowned at how the explorer scattered his stuff everywhere, but at the very least it wasn't on his side of the room. He noticed a journal hiding underneath his pillows, and letting his curiosity take control, he stood up, walked over, and picked it up. Flipping through the pages he saw the many sketches, pictures, and notes on various places that Evan has explored.
"You know it's rude to snoop through others belongings right?"
Jonathan turned around, only to let out a shriek. Evan was wet and wearing nothing but a towel that was loosely around his waist.
"What the Hell?!," Jonathan flushed red, "Why are you naked?!"
"For someone so smart you should already know why," Evan smirked, removing the towel to use it and drying off his hair.
Jonathan quickly turned away, shielding his view from a naked Evan.
"This is completely unprofessional," he said.
"Oh would you relax?," Evan rolled his eyes while pulling on some boxers and pants, "We're two fully grown men, have you not been in P.E class before?"
"I like not for everyone to see my body without clothes, thank you very much."
Jonathan grabbed his towel and clothes, marching off to the bathroom to go take a shower himself. While undressing, he took off his necklace first, carefully setting it down on the counter on top of his neatly folded clothes. He had it for as long as he could remember, the translation for the word on the back lost to time, but it was very ancient Greek writing. His mother had gifted it to him, saying "take care of what is left of our blue world". He still didn't know what she meant by that.
He quickly finished up his shower and placed his clothes on, putting back on his necklace and hiding it underneath his shirt. Walking back out to the room he saw Evan reclined on his bed and reading through his journal.
"Surely you are not going to spend the whole day in bed, are you?," he questioned him, "We have work to do."
"No, you have work to do, I have notes to review," Evan corrected him.
"You know we both have to work together on this."
"I thought you told me to stay out of your way? So clearly you can find the city."
Jonathan let out a growl of frustration.
"Well if you're gonna be in here all day might as well pick up this garbage you call your stuff!," he barked, slamming the door behind him as he left.
Jonathan marched down to his lab, slamming and locking the door behind him so as not to be bothered. He took a moment to take in a deep breath and calm down; anger gets people nowhere. He began to take out some previous notes he jotted down on the area of ocean they were on course to and spread them out on the table, sorting out which ones he needed to work on first. Though all were important, there was only one of him. Suddenly there was a knock on the door, but as he wished not to be disturbed he didn't answer. The knock came again, a little louder, leaving Jonathan to sigh.
"I'm busy," he called out.
It was answered by another knock, and he let out a small growl.
"I am a very busy person," he spoke more forcefully, "I-"
The knock interrupted him, leaving him to snap. He stormed over, unlocked the door, and threw it open; Evan was standing there with a smug grin.
"What?!," he shouted.
Evan just stood there, but when Jonathan glanced down he noticed a folder in Evan's outstretched hand.
"These are my own collected notes about the city that I'm ready to go over with you," he explained, "If you will find it in your ice cold heart to let me in?"
Jonathan scowled, but stepped aside to let Evan through the doorway into the lab. Evan grinned in triumph, stepping through and making himself comfortable on one of the lab counters. Jonathan closed the door, turning around and facing Evan.
"Tell me what accomplishments you have made in your research of the drowned city," he said, getting out a pen.
"Well my first assumption was that it was somewhere close to Greece," Evan explained, "But it appears that I could be wrong as in stories-"
"Meaning fictional and unhistorical."
"Many stated it being located in different areas, but not with an exact area of where it could be. For the record, these counted as legitimate sources."
"Stories are something you tell a child to get them to fall asleep, information sources are where you get the actual facts."
"Not a believer aye?"
"No point in believing in something that doesn't exist. I don't know why my boss is chasing after such a historical place, but if this satisfies his curiosity by at least checking, then so be it."
"Did you have any faith this place ever existed at one point? Did you even have an imagination?"
Evan stared at Jonathan, seeing his thoughts pulling against one another in some kind of battle. Jonathan just stared right back at him, unsure of what to exactly say next to someone who has basically discovered places even he said were just mere legends. His silence caused the explorer to smirk in victory.
This is gonna be a long voyage, Jonathan realized, turning his attention back to the notes Evan gave him to avoid further conversation.
