Evan stared at Jonathan in confusion, but then watched the researcher walk past him and towards what looked to be none other than a sea lion.
"Oh great," he laughed sarcastically, "So now I know you've gone mad."
"Just trust me on this," Jonathan huffed, "If we follow the sea lion we could find a way to the other side."
"But what if there is no way in through?"
"Do you trust me?"
Evan remembered that question; he asked it as he and Jonathan were on the brink of death, but his decision on which Jonathan trusted him had saved them, for better or worse.
"...Yes," he answered, giving a firm nod.
Jonathan nodded in return, continuing his path towards the animal. The animal looked up, sniffing at him, then barked, then began heading towards the water.
"Evan!," Jonathan called out.
Evan raced up, Jonathan climbing onto his back as they followed the seal into the water. Evan couldn't see at first, but he made out the animal as he followed it into a tunnel. His lungs began to burn, but he felt a tapping on his shoulder, looking to see Joantahn pointing up towards an air pocket; swimming towards it, they both took in a breath of air.
"See?," Jothan laughed, "Told ya."
"Uh, Jonathan?," Evan looked down at the water, "I think your necklace is glowing."
Jonathan pulled up the amulet of his necklace to look at it; when first waking up on the island, he was relieved to have still had it. He looked at it in amazement as he pulled it out of the water and saw the blue crystal glowing, though it began to lose its effect. He placed it back in the water, and it began glowing again.
"Guess this is our light source," Evan hummed, "Let's keep going then."
They continued onward, finding more air pockets to take air from to then continue, looking around at the dark ruins that were buried in the rock. Jonathan started to have the feeling they were being followed, and his fears confirmed it when he turned and shined the light behind them; the great white shark from before was silently following them in the tunnel, but it oddly seemed passive as it just slowly swam closer. Jonathan rapidly poked Evan's shoulder, and the other male turned and saw what distressed him, protectively going in front of him and ready to take the first hit. But the shark didn't attack them, just continued to swim up to Jonathan and gazed at the blue light coming from his amulet. It then nudged its nose in Jonathan's chest, continuing until Jonathan got the message to hold onto the animal.
Evan quickly held on as well as the shark began to swim off, swimming towards a light coming from the other end of the tunnel. In front of them lay ancient Greek buildings, but more importantly was the giant castle that was there as well, only a little of it being in the water as the rest looked to be above. Speaking of above, the shark guided them upwards, both men gasping for air as they finally could see more clearly. It was quiet as they allowed the shark to continue to carry them as they soaked everything in.
"The City of Atlantis," Jonathan smiled, "We made it."
Evan felt tears of joy going down his face as the site of the castle.
We did it dad, he silently cheered, We did.
Jonathan looked over to say something to Evan, but saw that the guy was having a moment, and deciding that he could say it later. He knew how important it must have been to him. The shark led them up to a flight of steps, both letting go and watching the shark swim off into the rest of the large city.
"One moment that animal is attacking us, and then the next helps us," Evan placed his hands on his hips, "I wonder what that could be about."
"I don't know," Jonathan answered, "Maybe it was hypnotised by the glow of the necklace?"
"Maybe, but, did you know it could do that?"
"No, I didn't."
The sky began to darken above them, and they both looked down to catch a sight to behold. The coral around the buildings began to glow a light bluish-green, illuminating the dark areas as colorful fish continued to swim around minding their own.
"I've never seen coral like this before," Jonathan began going back into the water.
Evan then remembered his bag that he still had on him, digging into it and pulling out two sets of goggles.
"Here," he handed one, "Just don't go too far in so I have to swim after you."
Jonathan rolled his eyes, but accepted them and placed them on.
"You know, these would have been useful earlier," he stated.
"We were in a rush to find that seal, remember?," Evan teased.
"Whatever, I'm gonna go look at the coral."
The shark swam up again, stopping by Jonathan's side and seeming to wait again for the male to cling to him. Jonathan smirked up at Evan as he took a hold of the dorsal fin.
"And I have my new friend to look after me," he added.
"Swim along little mermaid," Evan smirked back, "I'll find us some fish to fry."
He watched Jonathan and the shark swim off, now noticing the strange markings on the shark since it wasn't that dark and the animal wasn't attacking them. He began to wonder if it had anything to do with magic, but he knew Jonathan would say that it didn't sound scientific. He decided it was a mystery to solve later, looking around and finding a trident laying on the ground not too far away.
Welp, he walked over and picked it up, Time to go spear fishing. Tyler would definitely love to have come...I wonder how he is.
"Evan come look at this!," he looked up to see Jonathan waving to him.
Evan only smiled, finding his heart beat just a little faster at Jonathan's smile.
