Note: I'm changing the order around in the story a bit, so don't get confused if orders of events are not the same as in the series! +.*-
Bakugo Katsuki wears the usual frown on his face as he stomps into the classroom with his hands tucked away in his pockets. The first lesson of the day is about to start, and you're sitting in your usual place at the back, leaning on an elbow and clicking away with your pen. Nobody is talking to you after the fiasco yesterday afternoon. Is that a good thing? Isn't this what you wanted? Now you don't have to be bothered by anyone. Now you don't need to worry about making friends.
Aizawa steps into the room, making everyone fall silent in their seats. He begins the register, calling out everyone's names in his familiar tone one by one. Unfortunately for you, Bakugo sees this as an opportunity to talk to you.
"Hey, shrim-" He stops himself before finishing the nickname, remembering what happened before school. "L/N." You ignore him and carry on clicking your pen lid. "L/N. Answer me you annoying little shit." He raises his voice a little from a whisper without realizing, the insults falling from his mouth as normal words of his vocabulary. You don't react to his name calling.
Bakugo turns back around, knowing he won't be able to talk to you anytime soon. Mr Aizawa finishes the list of names and immediately starts the new big announcement. You'd already heard it from Toshinori, of course, but the news shocked the rest of 1-A.
"Very few of you may already know this, but today it's being officially announced. A new system will be introduced to UA High to ensure your safety and comfort the minds of the public. The Dorm System."
Your class erupts with cheers and immediate chatter, apart from the boy in front of you who lets out a groan. "Damn these extras." Honestly, you hate the idea of having to live in a dormitory, however you love the idea of decorating a room for yourself. You'd always loved designing - in fact, when you were younger, an architect was your number two dream job. After being a hero, of course.
Your face doesn't change at the news, but you can hear the conversations around you and it's obvious that pretty much everyone is excited for this. Mina turns to you with eager eyes and a wide open mouth. Her beady eyes meet your own (e/c) ones. You become half thrilled at her expression, thinking she wants to be friends again and a little relieved, but her face suddenly drops the smile. She turns back around quickly to avoid having to talk to you and leans over her desk to join in with the conversation with Shoji and Tokoyami instead, her face instantly changing back to its usual bubbly expression. You look down at your hands, feeling sorry for yourself and hiding behind your (h/c) hair. You're holding back tears for the second time that day, and you've only been in school 8 minutes.
"You have 10 minutes left. Do what you want, just don't bother me. I'm going to sleep." Aizawa's voice rings across the classroom and you can hear him clearly, even over all the talking. He crawls into his yellow sleeping bag and falls sideways on the floor, closing his eyes and falling sound asleep straight away.
You take the opportunity to leave the class without hesitation, and escape to the halls outside of 1-A. There's thankfully a vending machine just across from your classroom, and you have the spare change, so you decide to get a carton of vanilla milk. As you slot the 150 yen into the machine, you feel a small tap on your shoulder and sigh as you turn your head to see a headphone cord being pulled away. A cord you have seen multiple times before, a cord which in fact doesn't belong to a headphone, but a quirk. A person.
"Hey, L/N." You stab the carton with a paper straw and sip your milk, looking at the floor.
"Listen, I know you said you didn't want friends and stuff, but..." The purple haired girl pauses momentarily. "Y/N. Look at me, dammit." You raise your head a tiny bit and avert your eyes to look at her. She's standing confidently and staring at you with a glimmer in her eye. "I still want to be your friend!" She cringes and looks away.
Catching Jirou by surprise, you start giggling. "Jeez, this isn't some dramatic tv show. No need to be so damn cheesy." She blushes a little which causes you to laugh more confidently. "Catch," you say, and you throw her another milk you brought, which she slurps while tapping the ends of her earphone jacks together. "Sure. I'll be your friend, Jirou."
Her face brightens and her eyes sparkle with appreciation. She starts to nabber on about the dorms and how she wants to decorate her room, and you realize how lucky it is that she wants to be your friend. You don't have to be alone anymore.
One week later +.*-
You sit opposite Jirou, the other end of the table from half your class. "What about you, Y/N? How do you want to decorate your room?"
You hadn't thought about that yet, so you hesitate before answering. "I don't know to be honest. I usually go for something minimalistic, so at least it won't be too expensive."
Jirou smiles. "That's so... you. Hey, I have an idea! Let's go decoration shopping tomorrow! Please, let's do it!" Her face is practically radiating and you can tell she really wants to do this with you. You sigh and check your phone real quick to see if you have any plans for tomorrow afternoon. You don't.
"Sure, why not. I'm free." Kyouka beams at your response and you smile back at her. "We can meet outside the mall at 1.00? Does that work for you?"
Kyouka nods eagerly and takes in a breath before saying, "Hey, why don't we invite the others in the class? It'll be fun like that!" Your smile fades.
All week, your classmates had been avoiding you and giving you sad looks. In class training, nobody wanted to be your partner except for Kyouka. When it came to group work, they never spoke directly to you, and when you added any ideas, they all nodded without looking at you. "...doesn't the class hate me though? I shouted at them, especially Mina."
"L/N, do you really think that? Of course not! In fact, after you left that day, the class was pretty sad that you felt that way. We all wanna be your friend, y'know."
Your heart pace fastens. They want to be your friend even after you yelled. They must be pretty damn tolerant.
"Oh."
Jirou smiles and scoots over to whisper an invite to Kaminari. You don't look at the rest of the class, but you hear them all say that they were happy to come along and glad that you wanted to be their friends again. Mina and the rest of the Bakusquad are looking at you and you smile a little at them. This causes them to look at each other and grin back at you and you know that it's well between you all when Mina winks at you before they all turn back to one another and carry on their conversation. Then another eye catches yours.
Bakugo is next to you, studying you carefully with his bittersweet crimson eyes and scratching his scrappy blonde hair. You'd never noticed before, but his features actually compliment each other and his button nose actually looks pretty good-looking when its not scrunched up in a frown all the time. Suddenly, your (e/c) pupils meet his and the rest of your vision blurs. Your eyes are completely focused on his widened ones and your hearing muffles. Even as you lightly hear Jirou asking you what's wrong and why you're staring so intently into space, you shrug her off. It's like you were drawn to him.
You drag yourself out of the hypnotic state all of a sudden and stand up without saying anything, Jirou giving you a worried look. You walk over to the bathroom hardly giving Bakugo a second glance and you walk into a cubicle, slamming the cheap door behind you and falling to the floor.
What the hell was that?
